Stephenson is ahead right now but I saw some very positive signs from Raynor during the finals. I think Raynor is ready to tear the competition a new one this year.

Rayner has gotten away with a lacklustre start to his career and I suspect it's because he plays for the circlejerked Brisbane team. Despite completing two pre-seasons and having 46 games under his belt, he still can't come lose to running out a game, regularly fails to top 10 disposals in a game and rarely tops 15, and he kicks less than a goal a game. There's really nothing special about him if you look past his draft selection. He undoubtedly has unearthed potential to tap into when as the seasons pass but at this point in time, it's Stephenson and it's not even close.

Rayner is a slow burn like McCluggage who lagged behind McGrath in his first season but is now the much superior player

Will be a fun thread in a couple of years

VB or Carlton Draught, if you haven't got the first one the second is a very decent alternative.

In the McGrath V McCluggage thread a lot of the early replies were like some of the ones here.

McGrath and it's not even close lol!

Now it's McCluggage and it's not even close

Same will happen in this thread.....probably

Raynor comes across a as a big FIGJAM to me who hasn't done much in his first 2 seasons to warrant it.

Time will tell but I don't t hink he will end up anything special.

Happy for this comment to be bumped multiple times in 3 years if he ever does anything and I'm left with egg on my face.

For what it's worth Rayner is super fit, hopefully 2020 will be his break out year. With the increased fitness will come more mid field time

Decent opinion.

There was a thread last year specifically on Raynor, and the general consensus was that in year 2 it was still too early to judge him. If he was a key position player who was still building their body up you could understand, but he's a specialist medium forward.

I actually have some concerns over his decision making at times, and I don't think he's as natural footballer as initially posited. He's got good goal sense, and a decent athletic profile, in terms of strength and size, but the goal is eventually to transition him into the midfield where he's shown no real ability to play.

Interesting to see how he progresses.

He (Rayner) undoubtedly has unearthed potential to tap into when as the seasons pass but at this point in time, it's Stephenson and it's not even close.

Correct, Stephenson is clearly the better performed right now and if you had to pick one tomorrow to play for you he easily gets in ahead of Cam.
I reckon however if both fulfilled their potential of what they were expected/could be, Rayner would be the better player, he's got that power midfield/forward potential that the many current elite players have (Dusty, Fyfe, Danger, Bont, Cripps) but he looks a mile off it at the moment. Long way to go in their careers though which is why at this stage I'd still roll the dice on the former number 1 pick. Stephenson is a lot closer, but maybe not with the same potential heights.

Valid response

Better foot skills than a few of the players you mentioned
