But they have slowed the game down. And made is easier for less fit teams to compete.

So rule changes introduced to speed up the game, that everyone here said WOULD speed up the game, were a calculated effort to make Geelong better….

Remind me by the way, if you’ll indulge me, how going from a grand final to fifth is helping us

He does though. The all conquering all powerful messiah Geelong has got to finally rid the competition of the parasitic virus back to ninth where they belong. Open play, high scoring, free wheeling forward lines kicking good scores are back.
still bitter about losing your COLA.

Absolute disgrace and corrupt mofo, hope he destroys Geelong just like he has the standard of the game
LOL.

I say better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Fact is Steve Hocking's contribution to the AFL during THE most challenging time the AFL has ever experienced was profound and far reaching.

nup - that wouldn't hold. There is no such thing in the law as 'gardening leave', so effectively you are saying that he has to give 12 month notice when resigning - good luck with getting that through the courts.

You've never seen a non-compete clause? Same premise.

The rule changes SHocking has introduced have not worked to speed the game up, increase scoring etc. A professional would have introduced the new rules for an entire season at a state league without tinkering, unless things got disastrous, and see what happens.

Also deliberately trying to change how the game is played by certain of the best teams, which is exactly what he did, is very strange. It is almost, but not exactly, corruption. I don't see it as trying to trash the tigers. I see it as trying to create something closer to AFLX. The high pressure, chaos game style is the opposite of that aesthetic.

Lol stick to footy! - Geelong is not a 'competitor' of the AFL. Resignation of senior execs can come with quite lengthy notice periods, but they have to be reasonable. Senior exec notice periods are so long due to the criticality of their role and the amount of time it can take to find a replacement and do a handover, i.e reasonable. There is no way you could make that argument about Steve Hocking's role.

Player positioning was 50% of our success. 6-6-6, free kickouts to the wing and Stand were all designed to blunt it.

6-6-6 - Richmond set up in that formation less than any other team (4.8%) prior to the rule being introduced
free clearances - to break the Richmond zone that trapped the ball in the forward line until a goal was scored
Stand! - specifically targeted Richmond as described by Scott Gullan's article earlier in the year

Salty got sh*t on the liver after 11 years of dominance was overturned in the 2017 QF. Never tried to disguise his contempt for Richmond until finally giving up after last year's GF because he was sounding like a crackpot.

The 2020 GF stands tall as the greatest of the three.

The 6-6-6 rule was talked about years before Richmond won the flag in 2017 and you started following football again.

Hockings 3-0-75 blueprint for Geelong by 2030:-

3 fold debt increase
0 Premierships
75,000 members left.

From the man who bought you a gazillion rule changes to increase scoring, which actually didnt increase scoring.
????... they’ve only got around 60,000 members now!...

Why do people keep saying this.

You can't kick it to yourself. So you are either kicking it elsewhere to 17 on 17 or you play on and it becomes 18 on 18 again.

Because the player on the mark is not allowed to move. He has to wait until the umpire calls play on. I have seen many occasions where the player with the ball is level or past the player on the mark before the umpire calls play on. Not to mention when kicking for goal, players can run to the side to get closer knowing that the man on the mark cannot move, effectively making him a non participate to that part of the game. Meaning 17 on 18.

abolish the mark

The AFL world will miss him dearly with such visionary ideas like an 18m goal square.

He pretty much got it in by just changing the man on the mark an extra 15m back this year.
