So what is Brian Cook up to now?

I don't care how desperate of thirsty I sound, Freo should throw a large amount of money at him and get him down there, we need someone with a successful record to build an actual winning culture in the club.

It would only hold up if it was written into the contract and the person departing continued to receive his full salary, i.e., gardening leave
nup - that wouldn't hold. There is no such thing in the law as 'gardening leave', so effectively you are saying that he has to give 12 month notice when resigning - good luck with getting that through the courts.

Not his area
Everything else was including control of the umpires, earlier in the season Haydn Kennedy stepped down from leading the umpires citing interference from the GM of football, a stain on the game has destroyed Gilligans Legacy, creating one of the most corrupt sporting organisations on the planet, I wonder if he will step down from the betting company board next?

Hopefully the successor undoes some of the bullshit rules that shocking introduced without any consultation at all.
The premise of his ego was to speed up the game and increase scoring, to which he failed miserably.
The game will improve without him.
the best takes in here are ones like this. Hocking made all these changes, without consultation, all on his own. It's like some of you have never had a job in your life.

True.
But one thing that does annoy about this , is he started on something and not finished it and going to leave us we a half baked change to how game played. No follow through. Scared even more now what happens next to our game.

He failed in his quest to hand a couple of flags to your lot.
Richmond grabbed those, thanx

Yeah he tried hard with his 0 home finals mandate in particular.
All those other rule changes he made that seemed perfect for Geelong - you know, trying to speed up the game for our young, fast list that no one seems to ever comment on, rule changes that came in after half our team had spent a decade in the league under previous rules

**** you can’t make up how contradictorily dumb this shit sounds

Probably a controversial opinion but..

i’d love to see either Jason Dunstall or Dermott Brereton given the role..

both blokes just seem to me to know what direction the game should be going and both just seem to provide the cool, calm and correct response to the issues/controversy’s that come up from time to time in the sport..

They at the very least seem far more level headed and less “reactive” than the muppets currently running the show and some of the other “experts” in the media..

And both know their football better than most..

not sure either would want the job though...

I can't remember a popular AFL CEO, COO, head of the MRP in my lifetime. Comes with the territory. As if you lot are going to be left swooning over the next one.

They tried the 'no club ties' route with Anderson and Gill; people thought they were muppets who couldn't possibly understand how an AFL club worked.

I'm giggling at the return to Geelong though. It would be a great troll, if he were concerned with that sort of stuff. As a 19 year old, he squared up immediately on Leigh Matthews after his hit on Bruns and he refused to entertain the idea of giving that witch doctor Dank a position at the club. What's not to like, as a Geelong supporter?

Dunstall Over Derm

It's not called "gardening leave", but my contract has a 6 months notice term and the employer can put legally me on "gardening leave" on full pay if my presence around the workplace is not wanted and I am moving to a competitor. This happens every day. Admittedly I haven't heard of a 12 months term. And in the case of Steve Hoicking he isn't going to a competitor

No, it was when Joel Selwood got nothing for gouging and punching a prone player’s head, and Tom Stewart got nothing for slamming the head of a player into the ground in an identical manner to a Carlton player in the same round who got a week.

Glad I could clarify.
Wow, there must be crystal clear vision of this gouge for you to state it so strongly that it was suspension worthy?
An Stewart, did he happen to drag Cameron over to the boundary and then slam his head into the astroturf there?

True.

And yet of all major sporting codes in Australia it has arguably performed the best of them all over the last couple of decades. Perhaps cricket better with the BBL but that honeymoon may be over.

Now whether that performance is because of or in spite of the AFL leadership, who knows. But you'd have to say they've done a lot more right than wrong.

The same rule changes that during the pre-season everyone said would have a negative impact on 'too old, too slow' Geelong due to increased speed of ball movement? Those rule changes?

But they have slowed the game down. And made is easier for less fit teams to compete.

Derm in charge of the MRO would be interesting. I think i could get behind a rule change that punching an Essendon player never warrants a suspension
