Why do so many people on this board have such a problem with other people complaining? We have high standards and get annoyed when someone as capable as Steve Johnson plays petulant footy. Simple. If you don't like it, stop frequenting an anonymous internet forum.

Agreed; if someone has any sort of criticism against a player then they are termed as "complainers" or "trolls." This isn't another dodgy Bartel isnt that great thread or some such. The fact is that this thread is completely true; Johnson does often play for free kicks and he is good enough to be able to not do it. While he has been doing it for forever, its only been the last season and a half where it seems like it has actually affected his playstyle.

Look at him at the start of last season, or toward the end of 07'. Brilliant player. Was arguably in our top 5. Would be hard pressed to make that claim now.

As fans of the club, are we not allowed to make observations? Considering everyone agrees that Johnson plays for free kicks, its hardly wrong for someone to post about it. And it seems most people agree that he hasnt been playing as well as he has in the past.

Therefore, Johnson, as great as he can potentially be, is worthy of criticism in this case.

The only thing that has bothered me over the years is he is too good at football to need the odd whistle. He is holding back his own game when his focus goes from 'get ball' to 'look at me!'.

Not really. The teams pretty good at the moment. Brynes, Lonergan and Blake are all doing good at the moment, so someone has to be nitpicked at.

Let me ask you this recat; are you happy with Johnsons game at the moment? Can you look at mondays match and think "yeah he did a good job." Or the first round even.

he's kicked a couple of awesome goals in both rounds, but yeh gotta stop playing for frees. also needs to be told not to handball at all or run and carry because every time he does get gets caught. probably because of the hip.

It would be nice if SJ (the real one) didn't showboat and play for frees so much, particularly because he's that good a player that he doesn't need to. But let's keep the criticism in perspective. Calls for his head are a bit over the top.

So you expect the entire team to be at the top of their game every week.
SJ was down a bit but then there are plenty of times he has carried the forward line on his own. Surely he has some credits in the bank.

He's not at his best, but to suggest he should be dropped as some have is BS IMO.

Matter of fact why it was thought necessary to start a negative thread about a player because he's a bit down on form is a puzzle to me.

As I posted earlier, 40+ possies and three goals is hardly crap footy.

SJ is there to kick goals though, not get 20+ touches a game, I'd much rather 10 touches and add a goal or two instead.

Apparently that's the case with some supporters, never happy unless they have something to whinge about, heck I'd hate to see what they'd have to say if he started playing "really" bad.

^^ I don't think it's the 43 or so posessions and 3 goals that people are complaining about.

It's the playing for frees and getting caught with his arms in the air after doing one pirouette too many.

I know he has kicked three, I'm saying I'd like a couple more on there.

But yeah, his stats aren't all bad this year. It's the playing for frees.

I think this is what upsets everyone. There is no question about his ability. But poor attitude is making him a less valuable player than he should be. He is one of a select few players on our team that can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and change its course.
I blame his hip injury on his staging. He mouths off to defenders then falls over in front of them all day. He must want to get hurt.

Ok people, Ill fix it. Im writing a letter to Bomber as we speak. I have given him a run down about what they have done wrong over the last 3 years. I have included snippets from here on SJ's lack of form, Wojo's lack of football skill, Lonnegans lack of a razor, and Blakes lack of kicking and Handballing ability. Anyone I have missed?? We will get this team sorted out before its too late. ;)

I'll fix it even better. I'm going to telepathically control every Geelong poster so that they stop daring to question aspects of our irreproachable football team. Afterall, this is an internet forum, not a bloody outlet for anonymous opining.

Think these quotes suggest it's a bit more then just that .....

If it's just the staging for frees I'd tend to agree, although he's been doing it for years.

Absolutely!

Sure it may be impossible, but the moment you stop looking at how the team can be improved is either:
* The moment you are holding the premiership cup aloft
OR
* The moment the team starts to go downhill very quickly
