Re: You know who I mean.

I'll fix it even better. I'm going to telepathically control every Geelong poster so that they stop daring to question aspects of our irreproachable football team. Afterall, this is an internet forum, not a bloody outlet for anonymous opining.

Don't think anyones saying there should be no criticsm [ least I'm not ] but fair dinkum, wouldn't you agree some of the comments on here are absurd, and do we really need a four page thread [ so far ] about a bloke because his form is not 100%.

Re: You know who I mean.

Claude, that wont fix the diabolical state our team has descended into tho.

That being said, I apologise for knocking the knockers on here, i wont do it anymore. Its just i watched the game on monday and everyone who isnt a Geelong fan is a Geelong hater these days. So i had them rip on the Cats and all our hopeless players from start to finish. Then come on here for some team discussions and we are doing the same. Except Taylor, Hunt and Duncan of course.

I agree that some have been extreme (dropping him this week etc), but I think in this case the complaining/criticism is not unwarranted because it's not just that his form is under-par but that he is carrying on like a pork-chop whenever he gets the ball.

Fair enough. It can be particularly frustrating when the opposition supporters at the ground individualise their heckling.

Never fear, SJ will probably kick a bag this week and we'll all be happy:D

Re: You know who I mean.

Ok people, Ill fix it. Im writing a letter to Bomber as we speak. I have given him a run down about what they have done wrong over the last 3 years. I have included snippets from here on SJ's lack of form, Wojo's lack of football skill, Lonnegans lack of a razor, and Blakes lack of kicking and Handballing ability. Anyone I have missed?? We will get this team sorted out before its too late. ;)

Now that you mention it. Tell him I am worried about the abillity of Gaz and Chappy to grow hair.

Well put. It's not that we expect him to kick 6 every week - we don't. But we do expect (and quite rightly) that he performs within the framework the team demands.

Take Hawkins for example. Obviously we want him to do more, but if he keeps playing the way he did Monday I believe the results will come. He presented well, his second efforts were good, he chased, he tackled, worked hard, he did all the things the coaching staff would demand. If he keeps putting in efforts like Monday's game he'll get better sooner rather than later.

That's why we're annoyed with Johnson - he isn't putting in the effort. All he has to do is go back to basics. Present well, make second efforts, just do all the team things. He only needs to get a few touches for his form to come right back. That's what we mean.

Re: You know who I mean.

Absolutely!

Sure it may be impossible, but the moment you stop looking at how the team can be improved is either:
* The moment you are holding the premiership cup aloft
OR
* The moment the team starts to go downhill very quickly

Two thumbs up from me. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

The moment a person or a group becomes complacent and self-satisfied with themselves, it's the same moment their opponents have been waiting for to catch up and pass them by.

In any field If you don't constantly strive to improve on what you're achieving then that's what bound to happen so yes GENUINE Geelong supporters will "complain" about any noticeable chinks in the armour because we want the club to be as successful as long as it is possible. How that's a bad thing is truly beyond me.

You can kiss if our derriere if you think that's petulant whinging, no player not even a player of Stevies class is above reproach, NONE! On the contrary there should be a higher expectation from talented players to perform well and lead their fringe player teammates by example. And at this very moment SJ's playing like a billionaire and putting his teammates under unnecessary stress so I have no problem with people pullig him up for it.

Re: You know who I mean.

I'm sure the opposition teams are waiting for me to become complacent so they can overtake the Cats. Sorry, last one, no more, continue on. :D

Re: You know who I mean.

Complaining about Stevie J running around in the hoops is like complaining about Picasso using too much blue in his 'blue' period, or about the state of the house while Ms. gives out each day. He's Stevie 'Norm Smith' J for Christ's sake. He follows in our long history of 'frustrating artists'. And like all artists, he'll never be perfect. He'll make us mad, he'll make us wince. But he'll also makes us roar with excitement and cry tears of joy when the lightning strikes. The Cats without their frustraiting artists, well, we'd just be like any other team. What would be the point of it all.

Re: You know who I mean.

It's been a great start to the season and I don't really want to talk negatively about the Mighties, but i am getting annoyed and a little disappointed at the one player we have that doesn't keep his feet often enough and is probably spending too much time playing for frees. Hopefully it is just an aberration and he will return to past glories.

In the opening post on this thread, I never suggested that he be dropped.
I don't presume to have better ideas than our coaches and selectors. On the contrary, I have faith in their decision making in that area.

I would also like to point out that if he were dropped, for any reason, we wouldn't be playing a man short. He would be replaced by someone prepared to have a red hot go.

Saying that "I am getting annoyed and a little disappointed" hardly qualifies for the whining and whinging allegations made by some posters.

I notice that very few Geelong people had any trouble identifying the player - hence the name of the thread.
In fact even those diehards who state displeasure with the subject, particularly so early in the season, haven't bothered to deny the staging for frees or the failing to 'keep his feet' in the contest.

To suggest that he has been doing the same thing for the last three years is ludicrous - regardless of injury, this is not the same SJ that I've been watching prior to this year. Granted, he probably staged occasionally in the past, but at the moment he is a chance to go to ground in any contest.

One would assume that the matter would be addressed internally, and I am sure that every poster would love to see him return to his brilliant best sooner rather than later.

I thought that the modern day mantra at Catland was an open and honest attitude by all. You know, that one in all in thing. I recall reports of several players, inlcluding Gaz, being confronted by their peers.

As has been stated by others, it should never be too early to address these issues or any other that might improve our great Club.

It's one thing for him to lairise - we know he has that in him and it's part of what really makes him a bit special. You take the good with the bad and hope the good happens more often. But this playing for frees is eternally frustrating. Surely he should know by now that this is not going to help him actually win the ball. It's very frustrating and he actually seems to be getting worse at the staging and diving, not better. Someone needs to get in his ear about it.

And it's just too obvious that he's playing for a free kick. Makes the umpires unlikely to pay it so the end result is he probably gets less free kicks than he deserves

Re: You know who I mean.

It's not just the playing for free kicks 50% of the time the ball goes near him

he is going to ground way too often
he isnt respecting the opposition enough, it's like he thinks he has enough speed and skill to bamboozle every opposition player
he isnt using the first option enough, he is always trying to create some magic

his round 1 game was very good, but his round 2 game was the same crap he was serving up a bit last year and in the nab cup

the purpose of dropping him is to say hey steve this is a team game and you have to play for the team not just do what you want

That's because he thinks he's Daicos.

Re: You know who I mean.

Jonno will be jonno thats what makes him what he is --brilliant/frustrating
but it looks like he has lost a bit of strength and mobility near the ball which makes me think he is still carrying that hip injury (and lets not forget those dodgy ankles)
Having said that. the guy is becoming known as a diver and the umps have been told to crack down on this behaviour by swallowing the whistle
I think they are trying a bit of pavlovian psychology on known offenders. Its just taking stevie a little while to be 'trained up'
Speaking of stagers- Chappie is becoming a little bit prone also :(
