I posted this over 4 years ago.

O'Keefe was impressive in that Aus A game against England with both bat and ball. I thought then he should have been in the test side for the Ashes series. Instead they went with Doherty who was shithouse then replaced him with Beer who wasn't much better and neither could bat all that well either.

It staggers me that O'Keefe hasn't been given an opportunity at test level when so many other numpties have in recent years.

I was on the SOK bandwagon well before the rest of you campaigners.

A lot of people were thinking that in 2010/11 Plugger

Yeah but no one kept pushing his barrow here after that apart from me or Carbine Chaos who was another SOK fan.

I always thought he was a better spinner than Lyon and he's well and truly proven it in this test.

cricinfo ... "SOK has now dismissed each of the Indian batsmen to be dismissed in this match - if he can get Ishant when he comes in he'll have a complete set."

The big question, Naf would be a little nervous now, who do we take back to the Ashes if he keeps this up?

Lyon was a bit average in our summer so pressure is certainly on. That said I'd compare O'Keefe to Siddle in that they shine in the right conditions (England for Sidds). In Australia I don't think O'Keefe is the right option and we should stick to Lyon if he regains his form. O'Keefe clearly a must on sub continent tours and hopefully he's still got it during our next tour here when he'll likely be 36.

O'Keefe's home FC record is far superior to Lyon's. Why wouldn't he succeed at home?

SOK has arrived in the international stage. Hopefully he can seal that #1 spinner spot. When was the last time Lyon got man of the match honours. Bring Sriram to Oz to keep working on SOK - what ever their doing is working well.

The same reason Jadeja doesn't do anything outside these conditions. As I said if Lyon's form at home is as poor it was this summer then give O'Keefe a go but Lyon's produced some pretty good stuff in Australian conditions up until then.

Jumping the gun a bit with one performance here. If he dominates the rest of the series then it'll be hard to leave him out, sure, but I'm expecting India to produce pitches similar to the England series for the next 3 games so it'll be a different test.

You didn't answer my query as to why O'Keefe can't succeed at home with his fantastic FC stats in Australia.

People continue to underestimate him because he ain't sexy.

It's quite interesting how he and Smith came through at the same time as extremely promising but "bitser" all-rounders and have gone on to specialise as the best batsman and best spinner in the country respectively (essentially ignoring their second skill).

Is there a lesson in that for Mitch Marsh and Maxwell to just pick one discipline and just roll with it?

MMarsh already specializes in one discipline only: sucking selector dicks.

FC bowler who averages 22 becomes a successful Test bowler.

Shouldn't shock anyone. Shocked the selectors though, really shows that you shouldn't over analyse test selections. Dominant FC cricketers should get their opportunities.
