How is this showing how incompetent the titans are??

Most competent organisations would think to get their high profile recruit to actually sign some paper, just to make everything official and avoid situations such as this. This is the most incompetent act in professional sport that I can remember, and they should be made to pay for it. Learn lessons the hard way, don't let these amateurs get away with it.

How is this showing how incompetent the titans are?? They are standing up for themselves and showing great fight all ready. They had a player who agreed to terms which means they moved on and recruited other players, thinking that particular spot was filled. They are not going to be pushed around - you can't just have players changing your mind just because your team is winning. If he wasn't sure about his future, he shouldn't have agreed to the terms. It makes Turner look like a schoolboy - if things in life change, plant your feet in the ground and refuse to move. The bloke can sit out for 3 years as far as i'm concerned.

Just a little off-topic here, but why do you see for example Brenton Sanderson leaving Port Adelaide when he's got 1 year left on his contract, to go to another organization? Wouldn't Port just force Sando to stay at Port because there's a legally binding contract there?

Also statue law states that it probably requires that contracts be put in writing and executed with particular formalities. It differs from private law though however.

It doesn't matter about anything other than what the NRL considers as a legally binding contract. They have come out and said, you either play for the titans or sit the years out. A similar thing happened with Gorden Tallis.

As i said, i know someone who works for the QRL and ARL and he said the NRL administration is taking this very seriously. He can't see Turner playing for Melbourne next year, and neither can Gallop.

I can't see what the big fuss over Steve Turner is however. It's not like he is even in the top 50 players of the game.

Exactly - the top 20 wingers!!! C'mon, that is a joke. He is a winger, the least important position on the ground, and he isn't even in the top 10.

It is all a moot argument anyway. He won't be playing for the Gold Coast, despite the fact that a valid and binding contract is in place. Once the inter-club ******** swinging is out of the road, the parties will come together to reach a commercial solution. The NRL won't let him sit out for three years but the Storm and/or Turner will have to give the Gold Coast something in return.

It all puts the pressure on Turner though. He's on the end of about the best backline in the comp with a couple of the most promising juniors about to start senior footy. If they all roll over, he'll be the one to fall out.

And I agree with Warwick - he is a good player but not destined to be a great player. Better fullback than winger too, which makes it hard when he is only the 3rd string fullback at his club.

He's a full back, obviously can't displace Inglis from there and is already a better option than Slater IMO. He is a gun. Given his age and his injury history, the way he has been able to perform is nothing short of amazing. Gun.

I disagree. The only reason that statement can be close to true is because Turner had an uninterrupted year and Slater did not. Ask 15 rival coaches who they would prefer to have as the opposition fullback and all would say Turner.

He isn't a gun by any stretch of the imagination yet. I don't know how much league you have all seen but he isn't in the class of Peachy, Ridge, Pattern, Schifcofske etc and these blokes didn't play a lot of representative football.

Precious few wingers are. Gordon Tallis wasnt anything special when he had the same trouble during the SL fiasco, so why were people squabbling over him?

He's a young bloke and may turn out to be a gun yet (if not already - as he is IMO).

I fail to see how the 'NRL' are against the storm considering that News Limited actually owns them.

Steve will eventually come to his senses. There is no point trying to fight it at this stage, where your only option is to play footy with the Titans. He can't sign another contract (even to an overseas club). He'd be a fool to turn down his contract worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (it's not like Steve is a bank manager...).

Are you sure about that philhawk? Tallis was one of the best 2nd rowers in the game in 1996.

In fact, some believe (myself included) he was never as good for the broncos as he was for St George.

People on this thread have had a bitch because he didn't sign anything even though he gave his word. That is a contract in any profession, and one which the NRL acknowledges (hence their insistance for him fullfilling his word). You can't just decide to not play for a club because your other team is winning. That is what a child would do. If he didn't want to play for the titans, he shouldn't have accepted their terms.

And what compensation do you suggest the storm offer the titans? There are no draft picks, and they wouldn't be interested in money.

I have heard from someone in the know that the titans are going to fight this very hard. And they have the full support from the NRL (and Dave before you post more incoherent garbage about being anti-storm, save your breath - the NRL just want to uphold the rules).

I wasn't calling you a dumbarse, I was calling them (the Tiatns) one. And they are. It is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in sport, not making a high profile recruit sign a contract. It's asking for trouble. At least acknowledge that much. And speaking of stupid, why would a club force someone who doesn't want to play for them, to play for them. Without his heart in it he will be rubbish. Waste of money. They would be better off searching for someone else to play wing/full back for them who actually wants to be there.

I also would like your thoughts on what I was alluding to before but you happened to overlook it because I didn't realise you weren't a Titans man. What happens when Steve decides to sit out the next 3 years? Will the Titans still think he has a contract then? I wonder if they will change their tune....
