It's one of the best innings ever. Due to the emotion behind it all.

Such tension..

Props to Gilchrist for playing a suburb role in this drama.

For me to get excited about cricket, it must have been pretty special :)

Makes it an interesting question, though. On one hand, Waugh is clearly going to make it very hard for the selectors, on the other, you'd think that if he was going to retire any time soon, it wouldn't hurt to go out in this sort of fashion- i mean, if aust win this test, you could hardly ask for a more storybook way of ending your career- So yes, it looks like he deserves his spot in the side, but maybe if he's smart he'd look at retiring?

I think he should retire after the windies tour.

This should be his last test in Australia. Why not?

He is selfish, so he won't retire. As are all players on big $.

FWIW, I would take Border's 50s surrounded by some of the worst cricketers to play for our country, against one of the best bowling attacks to play the game, over Waugh's 100 today. Nice, but perspective.

That was unreal. The best test knock Ive ever seen. Bloody brilliant the guys a champion, not only was it special because of personal reasons, but because the side was in strife.

He's only in the side cause he's from NSW;););)

Nah, bloody legend he is, 3 milestones in the one match.
This is one innings he will be remembered for when he does retire.

'Twas great to see. Good on ya Stevie. I can say my whole family were cheering you on and it looks like most of the cricket board were too!

Well played by Adam Gilchrist aswell, nice of him to get a single and put Waugh back on strike for the last ball!

Great stuff.

To be honest I thought he was done. I didnt wanna see him bow out, but until the melbourne test, he didn't even look like steve waugh batting.

Good to see him 'back' - hopefully this will give him a chance to choose the moment he bows out and to do so with the appropriate style and grace, instead of dragged away kicking and screaming, which is what seemed to be looming

He said it was as good a knock as his 1st century.

And with Martin Love making a duck, it would seem he has put pressure on the selectors to keep him in the team for a bit longer!

.. Steve Waugh is a bloody legend!.. just when I was about to go off somewhere else, I heard Steve Waugh on the telly I paused for a second to watch him. Please don't retired Steve :(

Yep they extended it to see if Waugh was going to get his century.

Mighty nice of them :D

Sensational stuff. Real backs-to-the-wall stuff early on, with England on top for the first time in the series, but that partnership with Gilchrist puts us back in better shape. Not to mention the emotion of it - the atmosphere in the crowd and the support for Steve Waugh was tangible. Even while walking back to Central Station after the game everyone was still singing "Steve Waugh, Steve Waugh".
For a while it didn't look like he was going to get to 100 tonight, but anyone who left early will be feeling like a goose now.:p

The West Indies has always been a happy hunting ground for Steve Waugh. And, after that knock, it'll be his decision whether he wants to go back there. And I think he'll want to play on.
