The AFL acting because they don't want to look like fools. Their incompetence is why we don't have footage.

Public outrage at the consequences is easy to act on than public outrage for the AFL not doing anything.

But if there was footage Baker would go.

OK some clear facts on this case

• Baker was the only player near farmer
• He broke his nose and split his lip right open
• He was severely concussed and probably wont play this week
• Baker Haas history of playing outside the rules

How in the hell can any person here claim oh well there no video so there should be no charge

Murderers are convicted without bodies being found, there was heaps of physical evidence to suggest baker whacked Farmer....whatever the penalty is (A rumor sweeping the net a few minutes ago was 7 weeks...can anyone confirm this??)

Baker is a dirty player...I think people have to put aside thier dislike for Farmer who also is a thug too....but in this instance hes the victim not offender...that has to be remembered

I made this up, but this is how you get to 7 games.

Steven Baker, St Kilda, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Jeff Farmer, Fremantle, during the third quarter of the Round Twenty match between St Kilda and Fremantle, played at Telstra Dome on Saturday August 18, 2007.


The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), high impact (three points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of seven activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Four offence, drawing 450 demerit points and a four-match sanction. He has an existing poor record of four matches suspended within the last three years, which increases his penalty by 40 per cent to 630 demerit points. He has also 155 residual points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 785 points and a seven-match sanction.



I don't think anybody disputed it was a shepherd gone wrong, it can't be accidental since a shepherd that far off the ball is illegal every time, therefore it's reportable.

yet again, poor form, in line with the AFL's usual poor form. Through all their big talking, the AFL tribunal system remains inconsistent.

There has been so many rubbish results in the last few years that this doesn't surprise me. Gehrigs supension for his tummy tap but Hall gets off doing a worse punch to the guts. Baker cops a couple for attempting to punch yet in the same game Riewoldt gets belted and no suspension.
Intentional punches to the nuts get off. Headland gets off despite going nuts and full video evidence, they were soft to let him off with no penaly.

Actually the AFL IS consistent...consistently crap!!!

Before people get completely carried away with the 7 weeks, lets break down how this would have played out with a player with a normal record.

He got 450 points. Which would mean, with a guilty plea he would end up with 337 points and 3 weeks.

He cant get the guilty plea discount because of his record and he has 150+ carry over points + he gets the extra points for so many offences (a weighting)

So, he would have got 3 weeks for an off the ball illegal act that caused a broken nose and some concussion. That would seem ok.

Its just worse cos he has an ordinary record and an extraordinary number of carry over points.

Because you dont convict someone based on previous form, yes sentence him but you dont convict

If your putting aside your dislike for Farmer...then shouldnt we also do the same for Baker?
