oooh JD still flogging the horse. Its dead. I can't see that anyone who has read the tribunal 2007 doc could have come to any other conclusion than baker was guilty of rough conduct.

Could you please explain what finding you think the tribunal got wrong.
-Unnecessary contact
-Impact severe
-Contact High

The rules state "any bump causing forceful contact to be made to an opponent’s head or neck will be reportable for rough conduct. Rough conduct is interpreted widely in relation to any contact which is unreasonable or unnecessary in the circumstances."

Unless you can argue that the contact was necesary, wasn't severe or high he's guilty. These are the rules, have been all year.

Re: Australian Rules Football Is Dead!!!!!

The absolutely completely sad sad thing regarding the Steven Baker thread is that the majority of Bigfooty posters with regards to their attitudes are without doubt thorough s0ft****s and that Australian Rules Football as we know it is now AS SOFT AS EUROPEAN SOCCER

Maybe I am getting old - maybe my initiation to VFL footy in the 70's and 80's gave me the wrong impression as to what Australian Rules Footy was all about.

As Australians we once had the toughest footy code in the world - what we now have is just a pussy pathetic shell of what once was the greatest football code in the world.

What has happened to our game is a tragedy - it is a blight to our reputation as being an Australian. Our national football code and the supporters have been deceived, cornered and r*ped by the powers that be and like any good little submissive and repressed follower we have deplorably succumbed to Vlad and his brown nosing cronies :(

Australian Rules Football is dead!!!!:thumbsdown:

You are being a drama queen.

Stupid thread. Calm down, take a glass of water and come back when you've had time to cool off. Threads like this give Saints fans a bad name.

WTF has this got to do with me being a Saints fan :confused:

I am merely expressing my disgust as a football supporter with regards to the general state of Australian Rules Football :thumbsu:

Shame on you!!!

Ahhhh I think you will find that every one of those actions you have so kindly put forth have been illegal for the last 100 years :)

Re: Australian Rules Football Is Dead!!!!!

Yet he was helped off the field with 14 stitches in his forehead
It was an unfortunate injury. But it was during the play. If Baker had of done what he did to Farmer with the ball in play, I'm sure Baker would of got off. If he didn't, then the AFL is dead.

Nonsense.

All blocking is illegal if done more than 5m from the ball (in which case it's a shepard). Every player running to position is 'part of the play'.

And every block more than 5m from the play would be reported if they resulted in injuries like Framer's. They don't, and are largely missed.

Can't believe that people still don't get this.

Re: Australian Rules Football Is Dead!!!!!

Well I've followed footy for over 35 years going back to the early 70's and sure the game was tough - but toughness is not sniping and behind the play king hits.
A man has got a broken nose and lacerations which did not appear by magic. Unfortunately Steven Baker has a reputation for not playing within the rules at times and he has suffered the consequences.
Any behind the play incidents that cause an injury like that has got to be dealt with to stop it occuring again.
Going back to toughness - it was players like Francis Bourke and Leigh Matthews going full steam ahead to win the ball - both coming from the opposite direction with fear of crashing iminent - there sole objective the ball not the man and neither one taking a sideways step. That is what 70/80's tough football was about - commitment to the contest.
Funny though that this thread is started by the supporter of a club that has had the following play for them -

1. Robert Muir - known thug.
2. Jimmy O'Dea - involved in the John Greening incident that left a man unconscious behind the play and with monor brain damage. Although Greening came back it vitually ended his career down the track.

I think you need to look at the fact that although the game was probably tougher 30 years ago any sort of behind the play incident was still frowned upon as it rightly should have been and will continue to be.

Play the violins for this thread.

Re: Australian Rules Football Is Dead!!!!!

Whilst agreeing that the AFL have made this the softest Aussie Rules league in the country, and have generally stuffed up what I believe is the spirit of the game, I do not want to see a return to players being taken out with king hits behind the play, if indeed that is what ocurred.

Re: Australian Rules Football Is Dead!!!!!

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die

:(

Silly thread. But that Blade Runner quote is awesome.

Apparently Rutger Hauer ad-libbed the 'tears in rain' part.

So what you are saying is that if it is IN PLAY and it is ACCIDENTAL it is OK but if it is BEHIND PLAY and ACCIDENTAL it becomes INTENTIONAL / PLANNED / CONTRIVED / ON PURPOSE :confused:

Nice one knuckles :thumbsu:

Every club had their thugs you numbnut !!!!

And funny that you mentioned Leigh Matthews the only VFL football player to be charged with assault insinuating that he was fair and righteous

That said should I have expected anything less from a poster who is too gutless to reveal who he follows :(

I could find footage of Baker whacking Kane Johnson.

Does that mean he whacked Farmer?

Of course it doesn't so I see little relevance in what might have happened in another incident.

Or are you suggesting this penalty was a square up because the (W)AFL missed one?

No, he is suggesting that this is how Baker usually applies a 'block' to a player trying to get goal-side. I've seen him do the same thing many times.

I know you're disgruntled about the Baker decision, and I'd prefer to see him play too ;) but the catalyst for your anger towards (still) the best sport going around is your anger at the decision. If you were a Freo supporter you wouldn't have started this tirade. :)

Semantics pure Semantics (as if a Stk fan wouyld know what that means anyway) - the facts are that Farmer suffered an injury involving lots of blood and concussion "BEHIND THE PLAY".

No one can defend that - we don't need those sort of things in the game.

No because if was a FREO supporter i would have probably topped myself by now :(
