I have mentioned it in other threads about Browne but he seems to be the new whipping boy of a lot of people on this forum.

First it was russell, then they moved onto Johnson who has now shown a bit, so Stevie Browne it is.

The thing I like about this kid is he has played 20 games and his best games were against st kilda, geelong and brisbane last year when they were flying.

Most people are calling for robbo to come straight back into the side, in my opinion robbo has not shown anything against the good sides, yeah he kicked a few goals agaisnt richmond but thats not saying much.

Give the kid a break

Why would we need any whipping boys when we have 35 good footballers on our list right now.

Oh yes, WH needs another going over.

He may not have a "strong point", but what's his weakness?

Good kick, good decision maker, good mark, good tackler, good pace, is fit, can play midfield and defence, can shut down an opponent, can spoil a ball, has good strength... Thy's explanation of "Pure Footballer" is pretty much spot on...

He flew to Adelaide with the team as an emergency right?
Does that mean he didn't play at all last weekend?
That would be my only query with bringing him in this week, but he has played some decent footy for a 20 gamer.

I hate how supporters bag our own players. Surely there are enough Collingwood players for us to pay out instead.

So where abouts on the ground do we put this "pure footballer"?

Back, forward, middle? What role will be play?

I like him as a player and had him ahead of Army until this year. I just don't know where we're gunna play him long term.

He will likely take Lucas' spot this week which is "bench/wing/give him a game cos his young and looks a likely type". But where to from there??

I like browne, hard at it and solid skill set.

if he was 10 cm taller he would be in our best 22.

unfortunately for him others have over taken him at this point in time and only injuries will see him get a game.

This is the big question mark for mine. Many times has been caught out with slow decision-making and personally, I would put that down as his biggest weakness. Will be happy to see him get another run all the same.

What's his weakness?
Collingwood six footer
One paced, so you wouldn't want to play him on Rioli, Neville Jetta, Woneaemirri, etc.
Lacks the agility and run that makes Armfield, Murphy, Walker, Bower, Judd, Kreuzer, Gibbs and Joseph good players
Not a good kick like Murphy or Gibbs if he's hemmed in or cornered (though Browne can kick on the run with both feet)
Doesn't have anything special apart from his ability overhead and hardness
Decision making mentioned by FNMJAM

With Mclean out, I'd like to see the club try Browne in the middle and not down back.

A bit like Johnson.

Browne had good games last against the Eagles, Lions and Saints as a defensive midfielder.

Do you see Grigg fitting into the team?

He must be in the same boat as Browne, he has no outstanding attributes, his kicking is ok, decision making is ok, not overly quick etc etc.

Grigg has more height and more athleticism. I would much rather us develop Grigg in the ones than Browne.

Grigg has a perfect AFL body.

I reckon we could use Grigg in Mcleans role as he has a big body to block for judd and play defensivly. Plus Grigg doesn't bring a treadmill onto the oval like mclean does.

I dont really buy that Browne is not athletic, if you recall his first game he nearly took mark of the year standing on a couple of adelaide players shoulders.

Obviously the coaching panel seem to see something in him as he has been close to selection the last couple of weeks and from all reports will play this week.

Hopefully he proves a few people wrong.

We need to get rid of WH... he is recruiting too many fantastic footballers and not enough duds

We need more whipping boys at the club so that people can have their usual rants about how shit someone is... :p

Really? It was anything but last year. Not sure how he's gone in the VFL this season when fit but his tendency to bomb the ball long when under pressure, perceived or otherwise, is something he must improve if he's to forge himself a career.

Browne, I'm not so sure on. His lack of pace is concerning but makes up for it with his attack on the footy. Disposal and decision making needs improvement but something that'll likely come with experience. Strong and appears to be good overhead.

Gotta play browne as a midfielder, as well as Grigg. IMO both lack the neccessary pace (sometimes we might find the right match ups) and elite footskill needed to come out of defence.

In addition, older heads such as Scotland (30), Carrazzo (27), Hadley (27), Judd (27) and Houlihan (28) will need to be replaced eventually. What a great opportunity for young guys like Browne,Grigg,Lucas, Armfield, Joseph, etc, to learn off these great players and hopefully carry our next midfielder brigade. They still have about 2-4 years to master their craft and hopefully they'll be hitting their peak performance by then.:thumbsu: Plenty of time....
