It's all well and good bagging Dodd, but how about actually offering up an alternative? We really don't have a lot of options for Ablett.

DeBoer got smashed by him last time, Hasleby is far too slow, Suban doesn't have the endurance, Duffield isn't really a shut down player...

The only other real option would be Hill, and that might actually be worth a shot. But without Crowley, Dodd is one of the only few options we have in regards to tagging.

Idiot.

Ibbotson. Broughton.

Put Pavlich on him and make him accountable the other way.

All those players have other, better attributes. Dodd's only skill is his defensive capabilities, and he's shithouse at that when he's needed to stand up.

Sorry, but there is hell of lots of options before Dodd. Don't understand why Dodd is always the first option.

I would add Pearce to the other names that Mundy mentioned aswell.

Ablett gets well over 30 touches every game, the majority being cheap ones at the back. Expecting anyone to keep him to less than 20 isn't really realistic. Especially a guy who has played most of the season in the back line. Although Schammer did shut him down earlier in the season...

Unlike a few of our players, Dodd actually gives it his all in every game. Nothing I said will change anyones mind, but I think he gets treated pretty unfairly.

Dodd hasn't been our worst today and is playing on the best player in the AFL, a lot of over the top comments on here today. The Dodd bashing is getting a bit old.

Yeah...believe it or not, coming from you that really doesn't faze me.

It's a bit lonely being a Dodd fan on BigFooty...:o

I gave up defending my buddy as it was clear early that he was going to be the scapegoat this year.He is a defender and nothing more but like Mc Pharlin they play out of position for the team but still give 100% and because they struggle they cop rubbish from posters.

I'm not a Dodd fan but he has had a much better game and season than McPharlin.. Luke has been clearly our worst player in 2009. Absolute crap and spud.

dodd bashers on here lower the whole standard of this forum.
people who like the sound of there own keyoards, when they have nothing relevant to add, just come on here and abuse dodd.
must be watching a different game to me,he did his job on hiss opponant today.whats the problem?

ablett smashed us today. he was dodd's opponent, plain and simple

dodd wouldnt annoy me so much if he didnt continually turn the ball over through poor decision making and general skills. he is an lower than average player in a bottom 3 side, that says it all

ablett smashed us today. he was dodd's opponent, plain and simple.

Not quite that simple actually, seeing as Dodd was playing off half back in the second half. With Ablett seeming to spend a lot of time running away from Ibbotson...

Dodd seems to sit somewhere between dumb arse and 'can play'. i recon the more of the DA's around him the worse he gets. Its like he is easily converted into a DA. Today he was no our worst and his endeavour was ok.

KPR what would you expect if Dodd was placed on Ablett? He tears the best taggers a new one week in/out, let alone a Freo utility.

Idiot.

Ibbo took GAblett for a while there in the third quarter off memory ... he got smashed too. Pav also had a short go on him in the second ... that was never going to work and didn't last long. There are few who stop Garry getting his ball, Crowley is a rare player who can do it and he wasn't there, so frankly Gazza's 30+ posessions aren't great, but that's fairly parr, which brings me to this ...

ablett smashed us today. he was dodd's opponent, plain and simple
...

If you're implying that Dodd lost us the game because Ablett smashed us, well I think that's completly wrong. Ablett did what he always does and against better teams than us ... we got smashed primarily by Enright, Milburn, Scarlett ... basically their backline smashed and I mean smashed our fwds (helped by a poor strategy/execution from our mids). Their mids did their usual good work, though under reasonable pressure .... anyway, I wont go on.

Dodd wasn't stella but had a dig doing a job he's not really suited for and became a reasonable ball winner in the second half. Losses like this are a team effort, lets just keep that in perspective.

I am getting pissed off with the dodd bashers. He is one player that actually puts in every week.

Much more skilful players such as Headland Ibbottson Mundy Haselby Peake Mcpharlin should be the targets of your piss poor critism every week.

I agree, ablett is virtually untagable, and i dont blame dodd totally, it isnt his fault he is placed on a guy who is a million times better than him, but i do blame dodd for his regular skill errors and poor decision making. dodd should not be in the 22, unfortunately in our current situation we have to play him

im not implying that dodd is to blame for the loss, that is a team effort, i was just stating that the player dodd was tagging, smashed him, unfortunately dodd just pulls up a little short in the talent department and really shouldnt be playing at this level

Its all well and good that he ":tries hard" but the fact is, is that he is simply not good enough, he acts tough, but his skills and decision making is beyond poor. the other players you have mentioned are a problem as well. but i think that dodd who is 26 and is consistently poor is just as much of a problem as someone like mcpharlin who CAN play but has been out of form. as i have said previously, it isnt really dodds fault that he is given impossible tasks for someone of his limited ability, really if we were a better side, he would be vice captain for east fremantle instead of playing horribly for fremantle

Theres a reason Dodd played so many games this year and im sure he will be fairly high up there in the best an fairest.
Yet some people still fail to see the 1% ers he does week in week out that keep him his spot.

Dodd only played on Ablett in the first half after that the job was given to the youngsters to try an learn from him.
He actually did an ok job too, considering he plays most his footy down back an rarely gets midfield jobs, to have the job of playing on a star(overrated one) when its not his normal role i expected him to do terribly but he did better than the youngsters who played on him after halftime.

Look at all the positives Dodd does without the ball thats the stuff that the coaches like about him.
Dont just pay attention to when he has the ball.
Guys like Thornton Drum Gilmore can all play the same role that Dodd does and have better skills reason Dodd gets chosen ahead of them is hes the only one that consitantly does all the defensive 1%ers down back.

You can do all the bloody one percenters in he world, but if you can't kick, handball or make a smart decision with the ball then why the hell are you playing football.

Sounds like Ryan Murphy.

Without the one percenters of course ;)
