Dunno how left field it is. Before he came to the Cats as midfield coach the big weakness looked like it was going to be midfield but this year we're second for centre clearances. He's got the cvCertainly a left field appointment, but he fits the profile of what you want in a senior coach.
Exposure to different club environments (St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Geelong) and he has 15-years of assistant coaching experience behind him.
Really thought Buckley was a certainty to be appointed. Probably being earmarked for the Tasmania job.
Honestly, this is probably his one chance to draw that line and say that if you're not happy, we will find a way for you to go - if he waits too long, he loses the honeymoon period.Big question about where King sees the list. Doubt we see any big changes unless a player tells him he wants out. Petracca more likely than Oliver to move this year I'd guess.

Left field in the sense that Buckley was perceived as the clear frontrunner by the media.Dunno how left field it is. Before he came to the Cats as midfield coach the big weakness looked like it was going to be midfield but this year we're second for centre clearances. He's got the cv
I agree. Just think new coaches rarely make massive list changes immediately unless players ask to leave. I'd be happy to pay May to not play next year if that's what it takes.Honestly, this is probably his one chance to draw that line and say that if you're not happy, we will find a way for you to go - if he waits too long, he loses the honeymoon period.
I know it's harsh, but I would honestly just get rid of May and Oliver regardless. They're such good players at their best that it's worth having them around if you're in flag contention, but the attitude issues hurt while you're rebuilding.
If Petracca wants to go, then I'd let it happen. But I'd move the other two on no matter what they wanted.
Yeah but I also think media has a bias to discussing names familiar to audiences. You'll get more clicks on a Buckley storyLeft field in the sense that Buckley was perceived as the clear frontrunner by the media.
That’s a fair point.Yeah but I also think media has a bias to discussing names familiar to audiences. You'll get more clicks on a Buckley story
I get what you're saying but strange comment on Kosi. The man just signed extensionjust a few months ago and just got his first AAThe list was fantastic 4 years ago. There is still massive quality and potential there now, but the contracts might not reflect their current performance.
Is it a couple of years before the Trac and Oliver contracts wind up? What's happening with May and Kosi?
You're not as old as us but you play a more kinetic style, I think you're more worn than us.
Not West Coast, but maybe Carlton like? King will need rock solid support dealing with problem players, list choices etc.
Not sure you want a guy that the West Coast rejected
I had thought Primus was a coach of last resort for Port because they couldn't get anyonePort Adelaide chose Primus over Chris Scott.
Nah, you only get a chance to be involved in so many finals pushes in your life, why walk away from one?I love how Geelong is keeping him for the rest of the year like he cares. All he cares about now is Melbourne. He couldn’t give a **** what Geelong do in the finals.
Not sure you want a guy that the West Coast rejected
Do you think he’s sitting at home thinking how Geelong win the prelim, or looking at the Melbourne list and all the changes he can make to get them back at the top?Nah, you only get a chance to be involved in so many finals pushes in your life, why walk away from one?
Plus, if he wasn't a professional he wouldn't have been hired by Melbourne
He could be the Talisman that gets The Dees out of the Dead Zone..you never know.let's hope it does not end in Misery.
One of the most legendary moments in Australian sport
I think he already knows how Geelong win the prelim, he's been working on it all year. No late change now is going pull any rabbits out hatsDo you think he’s sitting at home thinking how Geelong win the prelim, or looking at the Melbourne list and all the changes he can make to get them back at the top?
King pulled out.Not sure you want a guy that the West Coast rejected
A very common phrase in the AFL..King pulled out.
Disagree. Pretty sure he wants the club he once captained to win another flagI love how Geelong is keeping him for the rest of the year like he cares. All he cares about now is Melbourne. He couldn’t give a **** what Geelong do in the finals.
