So are you saying if he doesn't get the good word from the specialist, Mark Stevens' career is immediately over?

I've fixed the typo in the title, but left the ones in your post. ;)

They said that his career could be over. It will depent on what the specialist says. He pulled up with a sore knee that swelled up after the trial. I guess it could go either way.:(

If he pulls the pin what are our options, can we promote a rookie?

If M Stevens ends retiring, wouldn't that make him a long term injury for this year ? In thhat event, couldn't that mean the Crows could promote Parker ?

I thought his game against Sydney in Round 3 last year was also a ripper.

We can promote a rookie but we don't have ready made replacements. We have potential replacements in the long term but nothing for 2004.

Trading for Scott Stevens now looks like a ripper of a move.

I hope Mark only has a minor setback and he recovers and is ready by round 1.

Let's hope Stiffy - let's hope. But his knee is pretty knackered, so I'm not overly optimistic.

In fact I'm treating any games out of Stevo as a bonus - I hope we get a lot of bonuses.

You're right about the wisdom of getting Scott Stevens. I saw him talking on CH 9 tonight saying he would like to play alongside Carey on a HFF all year with Perrie at FF.

That alone suggests that the club see him in that role, which means that either they don't expect Mark Stevens to be around much or they'll play him in the backlines.

Also we need Hentschel to stand up and be counted this year!!

Lets hope everything will be OK but as you said his knee is pretty bad. It's bone on bone like McLeod's but Bunji is no KPP and he doesn't have the same levels of stress on his body than a KPP let alone CHF.

We must plan for this season without Mark Stevens and hope for the best. Any games he plays will be a bonus and as you said lets hope we have many bonuses.

When Scott Stevens said that he is set to play HFF next to Wayne Carey with Perrie at FF my initial reaction was that M. Stevens will play in defence. However, when I heard about Stevo's knee later on I thought club is probably not really confident about him coming up for the season.

Big year fot Hentschel or Bock if its not good news with Stevo's knee. One of them has to put their hand up and play as a 3rd tall defender. If its a worst case scenario and Stevo's career is over then I think we will promote Parker.

Again, lets hope its all good.:)

Surely not!!! I would never have picked it!! :p

Seriously, when Stevo does pull the pin, whenever that might be, what will you change your name to then?

Is there an heir apparent just waiting to leap into the name?

He would want to improve on friday's performance.

Parker has potential to be good, Stevo on the other hand is already very good. Stevo is also a lot more versatile.

If we lose Stevo it will be a HUGE blow.:(

More reason why to go after Ottens:p

I will be The Widow for season 2004.

Will be amazed if there is any interest on his behalf.

You are probably right but we won't know unless we ask.

With the iminent retirements of Burns, Clarke, Carey, Smart and possibly Stevo we should have a lot of room in the salary cap. Since all the big names are signed up for another 2 years at least then we will most likely have to spend that money on a big name player or overpay other players.

And don't forget Hart and Roo are most likely to be on veteran's list further freeing up the salary cap.

The negative of it all is that we probably won't have much to offer other clubs in terms of compensation:(

:(

Your thinking is right, AFC will endevour to chase a big name to replace the retirees.
Problem is very few come off, the stars who are available, do they suit our needs, and are they prepared to come to Sth Aust.

Not good news at all concerning Stevo's knee injury flaring up again but to most of us not entirely unexpected.

Hope that he receives some good news from the specialist to at least give him some incentive to try once again.

True and he struggled last year but I thought in early the final against Brisbane last year he showed how valuable he could still be, kicking some inspirational goals early before running out of steam.

It would be a tragedy if that was his last game.

Lets hope there is something that can be done with his knee, both short term and long term. We can't expect him to play on if he is in danger of further permanent damage, so even a solution which relieves the pain is inadequate.

From the team point of view, I think a fit and firing Mark Stevens is crucial to our chances of winning the flag this year.

No Stevens = no flag, me thinks.

Having no Mark Stevens will make it difficult to win a flag. Would require Carey, Perrie, Welsh, S Stevens & probably Hentschel to step up further from 2003. Not a complete lost cause.

Spot on especially with the last comment. With him we are much meaner and agressive side.

Hope everything goes well today for Stevo's sake as well as ours.

Yeah last year we were effectively without Stevens and Welsh, leaving Perrie and Carey to carry to forward line. Even if we are without Mark Stevens, we can really gain a lot by having a fit and firing Scott Welsh.
