Stevic - Seriously ?

It is a very difficult job. We have the privilege of various camera angles, and slomo replays to decide on a decision. The umpire has a split second, and can't change his mind. A simple stat that shows FF and FA for each team would give a good indication if an umpire were biased, over 10+ game period. You may add shots at goal to the stat.

Reason I felt compelled to start this thread is that Stevic was right at the boundary looking directly at Lake drop the ball. Non call that won't appear on any stat sheet . After he called the Ballantyne reversal earlier I had seen enough of his usual rot. Again I'm not suggesting the Hawks did anything but play a winning brand of football but Stevic needs to be accountable for his calls that seem to favour one side.

I agree that the job is definitely hard and there has to be some understanding for errors.

While not completely accurate, Those stats mentioned above would definitely provide the a decent indication of team bias over time

No it's not that hard ....just pay it obvious ones instead of making up shit ....stevich favours Hawks

And why **** are 80% of the umpires Victorian ........that's a joke

He dead set favoured them in crows prelim too

So, you disagree that there are very few decent shots in the afl?
And you disagree that a team gains more momentum from goals in play then from a set shot?
I get the general point of your earlier post, but 6 points is the best momentum boost no matter how you get it.

The bad ones are perhaps when your are a kick and a half out from goal, where you had space but then with paying the free it gets blocked up

Of corse a goal is great, but remember the old saying "it's worth 2-or-3"

Those running goals that are stopped do definitely deflate your team more than a goal from a set shot (unless that set shot is from a big mark or tackle)

As a cats fan, you should know
2007-11 the cats built so much out of runs, and when they had to stop, they often lost (Brisbane in 2011 I think is probably the best example)

Stevich has form on Hawks games

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-13/afl-umpires-under-finals-pressure/5739686

Crows prelim .......he cheated in that game also and favoured the vic side

Stevic has form going back to 2012 for blatantly favoring the hawks, got them over the line in Adelaide game, was almost single handedly responsible for a 21-10 free kick count favouring hawks in the grand final, he was also responsible for getting them over the line in 2014 vs Port.

Hawks probably would have won tonight regardless, but he was once again blatantly favouring them with his decisions and should never be allowed to umpire games involving the Hawks, there is just too much evidence over the years that he can't do it without favouring them.

Love the whinging campaigners on here. It's all fine to say Hawks were gifted a couple of goals, but very convenient to overlook the goals Freeo kicked with non decisions.
- apparently it is ok to throw an elbow into an opponents head
- apparently it is ok to hold Cyril on then fall onto the middle of his back.
Both of these non decisions result in Freeo goals.
And I recall a very ordinary deliberate out of bounds decision against hodge, and another 50/50 against Puopulo.
But apparently we were gifted the win.

At the end of the day, Freeo weren't good enough and Ross will have all summer to think about it.

You obviously missed the 3 quite blatant holds dead in front of goal + a throw dead in front of goal + 2 blatant 50's not paid (one would have ended up 20m out directly in front of goal)+ the 3 shots on goal you were gifted for nothing + the 5-10 rubbish free kicks paid/not paid that went entire Hawthorn's way in the middle + the 3 7m kicks paid as mark, one which directly led to a goal.

Re that elbow to hodge as well, Li thought that was another example of Hawks holding up the man on the mark with impunity (believe he was continuing to hold after a clear mark/free kick)

It absolutely was. Hodge did it 2 weeks ago and got away with it then to.

My favourite part was Suckling running off the line to kick a goal after the siren.

They have lots of umps to choose from. Hoping from the AFL point of view that they avoid controversy and don't pick him for the grand final.

The whole game was overumpired for one team and underumpired for the other. Hawks were pretty much free to do anything to a Freo player in a marking contest or tackle or jump on them before they got the ball. Then Freo was called for touchy infringements. Freo also got called to play on after marks a lot which caught them off guard and caused turnovers, while Hawks tested the Buddy arc after the siren again. The umpiring of the grand final should be nothing like the umpiring of this game.

Walters free kick ...grabbed without the ball ....twenty five out ...would have been three points

How can you not see it

I saw it, at least twice.
Yes I have watched the replay

Wasn't actually held, there was an arm held across in front of Walters impeding his progress.
Walters went to ground rather than contesting the ground ball.
Play on was an excellent piece of umpiring
