But for all intents and purposes, Buddy is his first name.
His own family has called him that since he was young.
Like Ablett, (Gazza) Buddy has a forename that is unique in the league, so it doesn't seem so forced when they refer only to "Buddy" or "Gazza"
"Stevie J" is just a little contrived, but I can't say it bothers me.
(Not as much as Kellie Underwood screaming "The Little Master!" every time Gazza touched it, anyway)

God I hope Foxtel have their own commentators. Not sure if I can stand another season of Dennis describing a pickup and goal from 40m out as 'supernatural'. I'm also convinced that he doesn't actually know the rules of the game.

It's because he actually has very little knowledge of the game, so he covers his arse by avoiding definitive statements and speaking purely in the rhetorical sense. I'm so sick of this fool
