If he wasn't BOG today, he was very close to it. Four goals, was very creative and is playing like every game is his last.

Take the good with the bad - he makes some funny errors but in general he has had a successful return.

Keep it up SJ :thumbsu:

Anyone else have shades of Hunter/Armstrong when he was running into goal and had Mooney ahead? Heart nearly popped out of my mouth.

No way. SJohnno doesn't dish off if he's a chance to kick it himself, because he's a good footballer with confidence in his abilities. Armstrong is a mediocre footballer in a side that was being well beaten- no confidence in himself, and he looked for someone else to take responsibility.

Your heart is always in your mouth when he has the ball, anything could happen. I had great fears when he took possesion in defensive 50 in the last quarter...

Still a very important part of our side, and if he can keep up the application and dedication he's shown so far this season, it'll go a long way towards our success.

More the fact that Mooney was much closer, then SJ barely managed to shake a tackle before taking a bounce worthy of Mark Blake before finally slotting it.

He's had something like 60 touches and 8 goals in his 3 weeks back.

Hopefully he keeps it going.

Nobody ever doubted his talent. It is simply his application which has been questioned after multiple off-field indiscretions.

I was most pleased with his ferocity and defensive pressure in the forward line. He was even awarded for a great tackle in the first quarter and I have to admit, even I was jumping after that.

SJ has been great since he returned, he brings about a chance of something brilliant to happen, a bout of the spectacular. Therefore he attracts a better defender and therefore can free up others to have less skilled defenders and opens the game up for them to perform.

I'm very pleased with the club keeping him out for the entire 5 games, it showed some heart and discipline to do so. Even though people were calling for an early return, I'm very happy for the club to stick to its guns.

He has shown an improvement both in himself and his game, something he needed to learn. It was a win/win situation, and even though it didn't look so early, the form of both the club and himself are a true reflection of the possibilities learned from the issue.

Great to see him back and performing.

Stevies pocket miracles seem to have disappeared though. He used to slot the boundary line shots 100% of the time, he hasn't made one so far... :(

The one last week where Wirrpanda slipped and Steve trapped the ball and snapped was a beauty...

He was good! Interesting interview with Billy Brownless and some one else on SEN after the game. The bravado and Mr Bigtime crap has disappeared - not just for the listeners either. A couple of real SJ shockers but he stood his ground. As he said, others can say what they like about him on the ground (and he did cop some sledging) but it doesn't matter when you're winning.

He was always too valuable to trade. I hope the vast majority of those here who wanted to trade him are realising how wrong they were, week after week.

I'm with you. Would've been shattered if he had've gone...
We need that bit of magic in our team from him Gaz (& Nath to a degree), Varcoe, Wocjinski... Gives the team a spark. And the fans for that matter...

Hardly on the boundary line though.

You should have been here in October last year, I was fighting a losing battle.

As someone else said, hardly on the boundary line. Plus one of the reasons he was getting dropped was because he wouldn't pass off. From what I can figure out the Cats have a team rule which says something like pass off to a player in a better position inside 50. Some took it too literally and would pass off at every opportunity.

As an aside, there's some debate as to whether our former forward will finally get a run with the Tiges or wither Jack Riewoldt will come in instead. I didn't mind Kent leaving but I thought some of the stuff he said was cheap.
