I thought the AFLPA instructed Essendon players they could leave as unrestricted free agents?

Surely Crameri could get to the dogs this way rather than getting a trade worked out?

Bulldogs should play hardball and offer nothing more than pick 22 or else tell Crameri to go into the pre season draft where they would more than likely pick him up.

As an Essendon fan I don't think 22 is worth it.

Unfortunately I can't see a situation coming up where we can do better than that due to the bulldogs pick situation.

With our draft sanctions in place I think we need to take this deal.

Personally I think we are posturing and will back down later in the trade period (3 weeks remember).

I said two weeks ago that I think it will be Crameri for #22 and a swap of 4th rounders and I am sticking to it.

Sounds like a fair deal and quite possibly the reason there has not been a quick resolution.

I still think that Shaw will go to GWS for Adams and a swap of picks which will bugger it up.

Dunno if it'd involve Shaw but the swapping of picks is the reason I reckon we haven't taken it yet. We need to trade very smart based on our restrictions. If we can get another player by the Bulldogs swapping a third rounder else where plus 22 then we'd be nuts not to enquire.

There could be some swapping of later picks, but pick #4 is off limits so we're really stuck with what deals can be manufactured (save for a left-field player trade giving us other picks to deal with, but we wouldn't have more than 2 -3 players we'd even consider trading that have any currency whatsoever).

When do FA compo picks get announced? Feel like this is part of the problem with pick 22, if we could package Gumby and 22 for Freo's first rounder it might be closer to a deal.

Restricted and unrestricted period ends on October 18th. Not sure when they are announced.

FFS the guy kicked 30 odd goals any you want a pick lower.

To be fair, he only played 16 games and was injured in the games after round 12 that he played. Halfway through the season (after round 12) he had kicked 27 goals, so he's easily capable of kicking 40-55 goals a season for the next few years. Definitely worth more than pick 22, not that I'll be outraged if we settle for that.

As a neutral, just doesn't seem like the bombers are holding many cards to play. I would have thought an early 20s pick would be a good get personally.

Other clubs are reported to be interested, although he is keen to link with Brendan McCartney again.

From what I have heard, Essendon are keen on Johannisen... Maybe they are chasing him in this deal ?

Crameri seems to have spurts of good games + a string of games where he drops his head and seems disinterested. I really wanted him at one stage but after kicking 30 goals last year + his injury issues I rather we kept pick 22 tbh. If we get him in the PSD great, if St Kilda or Melbourne sign him up so be it.

Does Gumby have any value? In particular, first round upgrade value. He's played an average of 5 games a year. It would be a massive risk for someone with salary cap pressure to take him.

Bit of cutting off the nose to spite the face. Pick 22 is a heck of a lot better than nothing. Particularly when you consider getting that stops you from using a pick in the 80's.
