Both legends of the game and respective clubs.
Both heavily involved in clubs - particularly recruitment of coaches
Both clubs floundering after consistently poor off-field decisions.

Who has had a greater negative impact on their club?

Have never understood why clubs let these favourite sons, most of whom would be digging ditches or pulling beers at the local RSL if they couldn’t kick a footy, come back into the fold and make critical decisions for the club.

Archer’s a nice bloke and was a great player but did anyone see him in his year on Footy Classified? It was like they dragged a nuffy in from Street Talk by mistake.

Add in belting a bloke at kids footy and trying to justify it and it's amazing AFL allows hime to have such power in current climate

Not sure how the (mis)fortunes of a whole club can be blamed on a single person.
Even more bizarre when one considers that success in AFL is almost exclusively defined by what happens on the scoreboard.
There is only so much that can be done off the field, blaming off field personnel for players spudding it up on the field, gives the players an easy out.

North are 2 minutes into a rebuild. Bit early to be laying the boot into Archer, or anyone else at North.

The only reasonable answer to the question 'who has ruined their club more?' is James Hird. The stench from a long history of poor onfield performance can easily be washed away, just look at 9th-mond. The stench of getting caught trying to take shortcuts via doping will never wash off.

Archer has been around for way too long- great article the other day highlighting how well Bard Scott did considering how hamstrung he was at North- he wanted a complete clear out a few years ago- yet Archer and co wouldnt allow- and seemingly 90s Roos players had it in for him.

The point is about how ex players have too much power without any real experience beyond being good at footy and gifted a few roles in teh real world.
Not too many businesses excel when run by emotion.

Hird (for all his many faults) was brought in by powerbrokers- Paul little in particular- Sticks, Archer and Roo ARE powerbrokers

Yeah, it's a bit amateurish really. I don't see what Archer could offer from a non-football perspective, and he's in a non-football role. I don't think North are in a position to hand out board positions to favourite sons.

Ha. Ha. Ha. Yep, good old innocent Brad. No doubt you'll be happy with him as coach when Longmuir is run out of town.

Ex players/favourite sons on boards is not inherently a bad thing.
Any decent board has a range of skills amongst the board members.
There is a role for ex players on footy club boards. IMO.
The problem, IMO, is that club's don't have the structures in place to reign in powerbrokers. Weak President/CEO.

Justin >>>> Brad - NOW
Both were amazing assistants at Collingwood- Brad under Malthouse when they actually won in 2010, Longmuir under Bucks when they choked in18.

Much like players- the right club can make them and the wrong club break them.
Had roles reversed and Brad been gifted Cats and Chris gone to North- Brad would likely be a angry, beard wearing, Adonis of a Premiership coach and Chris would be on the scrap heap- although CHris probably would have belted Archer on his way out!

To be fair- he did start life as a North player!
....but in the pantheon of Fremantle FC legends, he’s second only to Pavlich.

To be fair though, Bell has a bit more about him than the likes of Archer and Riccuito - he’s taken on a front and centre role with clear outcomes, as opposed to lurking around in the background pulling strings.

That whole Jesse Hogan/Lachie Neale trade period aside (which also featured the dying days of the Lyon era), he’s done quite well.

Fair points- he can come off as a bit arrogant at times- yet, you could also argue that he would likely be able to gain a high paying and influential job in the real world without footy credentials- unlike the others.
