Bullshit what freo did was tanking as well but the afl are not investigating this, get back on topic and stop trying to be lily white, you gained an advantage by getting a home final, see lance Armstrong definition of cheat
Nonsense mate. But as you haven't made finals in so, so long it is understandable that you don't know what list management is. Tanking is trying to finish bottom of the ladder to gain the number 1 pick and also the priority pick. WE DID NOT DO THIS! We rested our player from a huge flight to Tasmania to keep them fresh to that we had the best chance of WINNING the following week. The opposite of tanking.

You couldn't be further from the truth, as this thread has demonstrated tanking means not doing everything possible to win. The papers have been all too eager to point out that list management us definitely a form of tanking and the rules do not stated anything about the position of the ladder or priority picks.

It is funny seeing a Freo fan talk his club up about making finals though.

Clutching at straws is all it is. As I and others have already explained the difference between what Melbourne did and what Freo did is astronomical. How can you claim a team that made finals that year tanked? It's bloody stupid.

The reason why Mebourne are hopefully going to get into lots of trouble is more so because of the reason why they tanked. For both the #1 and #2 draft picks. Preparing a teams player for finals is NOT TANKING.

Goodness gracious me.

It's a vain attempt to redefine and reshape 'tanking' so that you can drag other clubs into a mess that your own club created.

It's also quite funny seeing a Melbourne fan talk about winning.

A comparison with Richmond is laughable. If we have a game of tennis, I am not tanking if I don't try as hard as you and I lose. I am tanking if I deliberately hit balls out, in the comical fashion we saw in badminton at the last Olympics.
Tanking is tanking. It is possible that a team does it to a greater extent than another. Sanctions would be handed out accordingly.

Yes, we know what you want, you will be disappointed though, i'm sure you'll get over it.

Show me evidence that the AFL rules state what you think tanking to be.

Tanking, list management, bringing the game into disrepute etc. etc. has nothing to do with where a team finishes on the ladder. There's a rule for "not performing on your merits" ... but it doesn't mention ladder position.

Of course.

Got to love how Melbourne fans are trying to defend their club's actions.

Disgraceful
This thing would just about disappear from the forum if they didn't keep trying to tie themselves in knots and change goalposts trying to defend the indefensible.

In previous articles they clearly stated that Bailey and others viewed the threat of the Zulu's coming to get them as a joke.

Which opinion do you think that the court will make, that a threat of the Zulu's coming to get them was an order to tank or it was a joke.
Cool derail. If they AFL rely on a zulu joke in court they don't deserve to run the most popular code in the country. On the other hand, that article hints at specific instructions from Connolly. It also has what looks like Connolly's response to being shown a bunch of witness statements ("It's a conspiracy dammit!!").

What a stupid article

Just because there was a loophole in the laws of the ganes doesn't give you the right to cheat.

People have been charged with exploiting loopholes in the law/tax system and still get punished, you don't see them blaming the law for allowing them to do the wrong thing.

Think Melbourne and its supporters need to accept that they did the wrong thing abd not try to blame everyone and other clubs for their scum behaviour.

Have you not got better things to do on a Saturday night than sit here and attack an opposition club on a football forum? The degree of your angst is really quite sad.

Attack the man and not the issue, I'm sure you have better things to do on a sat night than trying to defend the indefensible or to try and attack me personally.

We've been through this. Just because someone can break the rules doesn't mean they should, it doesn't excuse any rule breaking and it most certainly doesn't mean the person or entity responsible for allowing the rule breaking to take place is responsible for the people who break the rules.

That's why they have rules: they are to be adhered to.
And it goes round... And round.... And round....

You're like a broken record. I can understand the MFC supporters being here. But surely you've got better things to do on a Saturday night.

You keep attacking posters with that little snide remark but what are YOU doing posting on a sat night ?
Toughen up, princess. Just thought I'd have a quick look at a post concerning MY footy club.

You enjoy your evening though. Maybe you can pop over to the Bulldogs board and have a dig at them about membership numbers, or get over to the GWS board and talk to them about wooden spoons. Whatever makes you feel good champ.

What is your point of view again? I'm not sure you've voiced it enough. If this thread gets to 200 pages I want to see you still in there, smashing away at the keyboard.

Goodnight sweetheart. Don't let those small handful of Demon posters off the hook. You're showing them!

We didn't tank either. What's that? We did? Sorry pal, hasn't been proven yet. You can beat your chest and have as many cracks at my club as you like, but it doesn't make you right.

I'm sure you have nothing better to do than attack me on my views of that article you posted.

Poor thing needs a hug

Yep I'm sure that investigation and charge is just a figment of everyone's imagination.

Oh well only a couple more weeks till the punishment is handed down I guess and we can all move on.

Investigation is one thing. Proving it is another. People get charged with something all the time and are found not guilty. That's just the way the system goes.

But that last sentence is the most sensible thing you've said during this thread. A couple more weeks, maybe more, and it's all over, one way or the other.
