Thanks for the namecalling, mate. Always really helpful and constructive.

I had made my mind up that Rod Butterss had to go before the season ended. His increasingly erratic behaviour on behalf of the St Kilda Football Club convinced me that his time was up. The desperate moves of the last seven days only help to assure me I have made the right decision.
Let's hope you have not voted in a worse beast.

Footy and emotion are hard to separate. It is unfortunate that people have voted without much comparison, but you have to hand it to Footy First, they have cultured this and played on people's emotion. Not many people on Big Footy are in control of their emotion, and that is how FF have managed to get the ball rolling before any serious debate has been undertaken.

Let's not tear each other apart over this, hopefully some people will learn how they have been manipulated and be wiser for it in the long run. You can not hold out too much balme for those who niavely believe a change of predisent will bring instant success, like a change of coach will after one season, or that we can win without playing accountable footy. Emotion is the easiest way to control people, let's just hope they do have some substance because the writing is now on the wall.

Understood OWTS, but what I was getting at was.. how many elections have you seen where people have voted before even hearing what is on offer?? It's like voting for K-Rudd just for the fact his name (kevin) ryhmes with '07 and never looking at his policies... if only 40% ever vote, i find it very odd that 99% of that 40% aren't even wanting to hear out the EGM and are voting on baseless claims by FF.. or is it just me??

Its just weird that people wanting to vote (40%) have no idea what they are voting for.. kind of defeats the purpose you would thinkg of voluntary voting!
It is probably weird ... but your lasting impression of someone is the one you have in the first 30 seconds of meeting them, and often this never changes.

I guess what the high number of votes shows is people's huge dissatisfaction with the current board, and their willingness to vote in any alternative, however good or bad.

Butterss quits Saints presidency

St Kilda president Rod Butterss and his fellow directors have quit the board of the AFL club.
Butterss, as well as fellow directors Glen Casey, Mark Kellett, Andrew Bassat and Ray King, on Tuesday announced in a statement they were standing down.

They were facing a serious challenge by a Greg Westaway-led rival ticket called St Kilda Footy First.
Butterss said he and the board were "not prepared to submit the club to a costly legal battle in the courts which is scheduled to commence tomorrow".
"The resignations take effect immediately to allow the Footy First group the opportunity to outline their plans for success to the members at this Friday night's Trevor Barker awards night," the statement said.
Butterss said a "smooth transition and a stable environment were important to enable the club to focus on the issues that really mattered such as signing sponsors and preparing for the 2008 season".
Butterss had been on the Saints board since 1999 and was elected president in 2001.
The 48-year-old was also a former reserves player at the club.

OK, first. FFS have not kept us informed. Printing nice matching ties is not keeping us informed. Sending out a 12 page document of complete twaddle is not keeping us informed. "We have lots of secret sponsors" is not keeping us informed. "lots of Saints legends back us but they're too scared to say who they are" is not keeping us informed. Having your backers keep silent may be understandable in Burma but this is Australia. So I am happy to conclude that all these secret people don't actually exist.

So there's the answers, best as I know them. But there is a greater point here. Butterss actually runs the Saints, so we can examine his record (no debt, massive profits, great playing list) and he has said what he'll do about our problems: 1 appoint experts to investigate (DONE), 2 add 500k in spending (DONE) 3. appoint the best conditioning coach in the land (DONE).

Fairy Floss First have no record, and no plan. Just matching ties.

mmmmm....Butters and his men have departed...not a bad plan by Westaway and the boys, a plan of perception and strength that had them packing their bags, backed up by no doubt a strategic plan to get the focus back on the field.

Well done though Fehring, you did alot of work in answering the debate - hopefully all united now behind the club

Buttress had the best interests of the club to the end.

"They were facing a serious challenge by a Greg Westaway-led rival ticket called St Kilda Footy First.
Butterss said he and the board were "not prepared to submit the club to a costly legal battle in the courts which is scheduled to commence tomorrow".

Let's hope that there are some thought through ideas behind these guys, and not just ex players tugging at the heart strings of members.

""The resignations take effect immediately to allow the Footy First group the opportunity to outline their plans for success to the members at this Friday night's Trevor Barker awards night," the statement said."

Well, I am behind them now and hope I get no chance to say, "I told you so".

Come on Saints 08 and beyond.
