Stokes or Rioli

Hard to compare because they play different roles.

Right now stokes is obviously better. Longer term rioli will be a gun.

Stokes is better in contested situations and is very good overhead in contested marks.

Rioli has more tricks, and watch out when gets a bigger tank, more consistency and a run in the midfield.

Both seem to gel very well with their team mates.

Dont forget at Hawthorn we have cuz Cameron and he looks to be almost as good.

Stokes is as tough as nails. Not sure if Rioli can match him in that area.

Rioli is a tough nut. he has had his head taken off so many times, and before the ump has a chance to blow the whistle he has already taken off and sent it inside 50.

Rioli is much younger then your stokes isnt he? so that would be an upside, i could be confusing him with taylor though....

Agreed, that's the real comparison. And I'd say Rioli at this stage. Both do great chase-down tackles, but Rioli works a little harder.

Actually, I tend to agree with this. In point of fact, ALL Premierships, runners-up medals, Brownlows, hell even the 'Carji' Greeves Medal should be immediately stripped from their current owners and retroactively awarded to Hawthorn.

They are the best sporting team the world has ever known. Or ever will know. They can, have, and will win the Stanley Cup and Wimbledon. They are the champions of the World Series and can tell FIFA what to do. The International Olympic Committee defer to Hawthorn's judgement always.

Whenever a Guatemalan kid is crying in the dirt because his team lost, Hawthorn is there.

Whenever Canada loses a curling tournament, Hawthorn is there.

When someone is hospitalised during the Gloucester Cheese Rolling spectacular, Hawthorn is there.

I concur ... Stokes has proven to be very good, Rioli has that x factor but the jury will still be out until finals time.

but whoever suggested a comparision with Varco should be shot, he is geelongs weakest link if there was one.

seriously. stokes is one of those cats players that "plays-on in an unsociable manner" and contributes heavily to the cats not playing "in the spirit of the game".

y'know, he never gets behind his mark before playing-on - and the ump never brings him back!!

At the moment, it's no comparison. Stokes romps it on average possession, marks and goals. Rioli is ahead in tackles. Problem with predicting how great a player will be is that there are many who don't turn out that way. Stokes has the runs on the board so that is who I am choosing.

Took a screamer against you guys the other week. Would rate his overhead skills as very good.
Saw an interview with Stokes on the Marngrook Footy show last night and was most impressed with his attitude. Very humble and sounds like a hard worker on the track. Also impressed with his effort to overcome injury in last years GF.
