Listen, Australian's Kick 'ARSE' not 'ass'. The influence of all things American is invading Australian culture. We are not pawns to American kings. Why do we have to take on so many of thier ways like wearing hats backwards, using american slang, introducing players individually onto the ground (That was a real shocker) Even the latest KFC adds are practically aimed at youngsters who want to be like thier American idols. Last year at the AFL day at Punt Rd, the showbags kids got for free had a Micheal Jordan poster in them. Dont get me wrong, I dont hate America or Americans, America is a great place to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there, thats why I live here in the greatest country on earth, please dont be party to ruining it, stand up and be proud to be an Aussie, not a 2nd cousin Seppo!

Good on ya mate,

bonza job. I agree wholeheartedly. Australian Youth mimic Americans far too much. Though thanks to Lleyton Hewitt i don't think the backwards hat thing can be stopped now.

My old man used to go troppo whenever he heard anyone say guy because of the American origin of the word.

So lets start here everybody. Lets make an effort to replace Americanised words with our own unique Australian terms. Lets at least have a refuge here on the Aussie Rules discussions.

Aussies do rule.

But me no butt.

The one yank word I really hate, Its a bum, arse, backside or posterior if you will.

When you win you kick there (insert appropriate word here)

the butt is the end of a ciggie.

Strewth its enough to make you want to pack a swag and go bush for the rest of your days.

Strewth Cobbers, it enough to bring a tear to an ol diggers eye knowing I'm not the only bloke who thinks this way. Nothing like a bit of Seppo bashing to brighten up your day. I just hope there are more bonza blokes and sheila's that think like us!

Too bloody right mate!

Bloody Yanks - they all say "Fourth of July", but how do they write their dates...?

Yes and they still don't understand the metric system, still have 1 and 2 cent pieces, and their sense of humour is so primitive and stupid that irony and sarcasm go straight over their heads

But seriously - I can't stand American popular culture anymore than you guys (although I use 'freakking' instead of the other 'f' word) but some American practices have actually helped our game enormously.

The draft and salary cap are both American inventions adopted by the AFL in an attempt to inject a bit of equality into the competition and to try and stop the dreary spectacle of the richest club buying premiership after premiership.

If you think it does not work - look at Manchester bloody United in the English soccer. Champs year in year out and nobody else gets a look in.

Why ?

Because in a market where there is no draft or salary cap the club with the biggest chequebook can just go out and buy up all the good players.

Rupert Murdoch gave 300 million pounds to Alex bloody Ferguson to just go out and buy some stars - and they gave him a knihghthood for that, yeah nice one 'Sir' Alex I bet that took real skill - NOT

Like it or not some American ideas are actually good ones.
