Difference between slogging and showing intent.

In fact at times this series batsmen from both sides have batted to slowly when set and not looked to wrest control back from the bowlers. Looks more threatening and puts bowlers off their length when having a go.

While players like Rahane and Handscomb have played stupid shots players like Kohli and Harris have batted with intent and controlled the game.

Pujura and even Kahwaja have batted too slowly and haven't put the gap on the opposition when in front.

Khawaja saved our innings when batting was bloody tough.

The partnership between he and Paine was probably our slowest but it was the also the most important in terms of where the game was at.

Personally I think Khawaja's innings was a bit fortunate. Despite his score, he still demonstrated the same problem that had got him dismissed cheaply in the preceding three innings (too many dots and not enough singles).

Whilst his grit is admirable, I think that approach fails far more often than it succeeds.

Ussie got destroyed by all and sundry when he played cautiously at Adelaide and got a good one from ashwin and then he got destroyed when he got out attacking ashwin later in the test.

Like or not he is by far our best batsman, his approach works for him and if the other 5 blokes averaged what he did we would be a bloody good test side right now.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Khawaja should be dropped. It's just a little frustrating that someone with his talent wilts so badly under pressure of good bowling.

If he could find a way to rotate the strike consistently (like, say, Paine does) then he'd take a lot of pressure off himself. It's really the only thing holding him back from being a complete player.
