The fact is despite people's inability to read articles correctly the fact is it's a lot easier (not safer) to get here on boat then it is on plane.

Which of course makes you wonder how they managed to fly to Indonesia.

Either way if we are going to support a immigration system that is based on who can pay the most why not cut out the middleman (people smugglers) and just have a bidding process where we get all the money?
They flew to Indonesia using their proper identification. They only get rid of it when at sea.

This firsthand account was published in the New York times. Journalists paid for passage on a smuggling boat to see how it worked. Very interesting.

Make wild claim, made to look foolish then try to change the subject.
That's the one. Not quite as good as sea patrols finest moment, but considering the achievements and standing of Mrs Triggs, it was all rather comedic. Maybe she hoped her respected experience and standing could carry the bulldust far enough.

She simply said she had x amount of lawyers years to try and attain credibility from the viewers becasue basically she knew she'd been put on the backfoot.

Time to chalk up another victim of this terrible, terrible policy. Imagine in this day and age, dying because you cut your foot and could get no medical attention for it.

Manus Island claims another victim as asylum seeker declared brain dead. Manus detainees accuse IHMS
admin | September 3, 2014 | Reply
A 24 year-old Iranian asylum seeker, Hamid Kehazaei, who was urgently medivacced from Manus Island to Brisbane on Wednesday, 27 August has been declared to be ‘brain dead’.

By the time Hamid was medivacced to Brisbane, he was suffering septicaemia, from an infection spreading from a cut foot, and went directly into intensive care in the Mater hospital. He had sought medical attention for days on Manus Island for the pain and the infection.

A couple of days ago, he suffered a heart attack and yesterday (Tuesday, 2 September), the Immigration Department and the hospital told the family that Hamid was confirmed as ‘brain dead’. He remains on life support.

The hospital has told the family that a ‘guardian’ will be appointed at ‘some stage’ to decide on the withdrawal of life support. The family has indicated that they are willing for Hamid’s organs to be donated if that is possible.

Hamid was among the first of the asylum seekers transferred to Manus Island by the then Rudd Labor government in September 2013.

On Sunday or Monday, P block in Foxtrot compound, where Hamid and 140 others had been living, was evacuated and closed.

“Hamid is a victim of the shocking conditions and medical neglect on Manus Island. It is inexcusable that he developed septicaemia on Manus Island,” said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.

“Once again, Scott Morrison is responsible for a death on Manus Island. There are scores of infections on Manus Island, and many complaints of the lack of medical attention. Asylum seekers on Manus Island are often forced to walk through raw sewage.

“Nothing more obviously reveals Manus Island as a unhygienic hell-hole that must be closed.”

Below is a letter signed by Manus Island detainees accusing IHMS as responsible for the death of Hamid.

A vigil has been called for Thursday 4 September, 12 noon at Mater Hospital, South Brisbane.

RIP Hamid Kehazaei, killed as a result of Australian negligence.

Nobody forces people to get on boats, it's a personal decision that is made knowing the risks, somehow you don't seem to understand that or are being deliberately blind to that fact. This guy died of septicaemia, under the care of the Australian government as result of being unable to access basic medical care on Manus Island, do you think that's good enough?

Nope its not good enough. Pretty shameful for our whole country, apart from the personal tragedy involved.

So why would they risk getting on the boats then? Why would you pay thousands of dollors and risk your life on a boat?

Its pretty dodgy to provide every encouragement to enter Australia by boat (under the Rudd government) then blame the refugees for coming on boats.

These people are simply following the incentives given.

Why the personal vendetta? What joy do you get?

Maggie, just because a poster replies or comments on one of your posts doesn't mean everything is about you. Okay?
Secondly playing the victim card doesn't really work on this forum. Thirdly, if you have respect for facts then check them out before opining, or, if you find you are mistaken, just acknowledge and move on which makes for more fruitful discussion.:)

Gough Hanson Young and the Green/Labor supporters who so vociferously opposed the Howard deterence in 2008 and got it overthrown do not care to admit their personal responsibility for encouraging tens of thousands of cashed up people smuggler cilents to risk their lives on the promise of Australian citizenship at the end of it. What they want now is the boats back so that more people can drown alongside their children who have no choice in the matter..

How can you blame the deaths of economic refugees on an asylum seeker policy?
