CM86 and Co have no empathy. They go around sprouting their bs about caring for asylum seekers and then couldn't give a **** if they die at sea at the hands of criminals (illegal boat smugglers).
They did care about deaths at sea when John Howard was Prime Minister...... which suggest they're more interested in bashing their enemies than a proper plan to deal with the issue.

Too much empathy is the problem. Not enough national envy...

Like you give a shit about anyone but yourself, or those making more money than you.
Take a look in the mirror ffs. You have serious problems that need urgent attention. All emotion and no commonsense at all being sprouted from you on this thread.

Thats my point.

If you think its a pathetic number....... pick one that you can live with

100k whatever.

and then defend your position.

It shouldn't be any different to any policy whether its the NBN or nuclear power.

At the moment ....your side basically has no number and therefore will never convince the public to accept your policies.
Besides which, you didn't answer the question-do you think honestly think that 12,000 out of 50 million is 'not a pathetic' number?

Lebbo-seeing as you don't believe climate change is happening, it strikes me that if you continue to hold such backward views, then this post is a pretty apt description of yourself.;)

Yep and are you saying that line that has to be drawn -12,000 out of 50 million -its a good place to put the line? Is that seriously the best you think a country like ours can do?
Even if our country took the whole 50 million refugees this year, there would be another 50 million waiting next year.

So a 100k then? What happens to the 100,001?

The issue isn't the number its how (or if?) you enforce that limit.
Still haven't answered the question.
ps if the issue isn't the numbers for you, how come you obsessively repeat your mantra of 'how many?"
and what happens to the 12,001 Max?

We wouldn't take the 50 million. Why would another 50 mill then pop up-am not seeing the logic there.
The point being is that word would get out that Oz's door is wide open, people would up and move here for better opportunities and safety from their homes of tyrants and militias.

Yep I got the point but it seems quite unlikely to me that a country of 25 million would accept 100 million refugees.;)
Most people don't have the opportunity to get as far as Australia -that is why poor old countries like Pakistan and Tanzania take so many-proximity is the key factor.

I ask it because no one wants to answer it.

Just like how you don't answer now.

Say we increase the intake to 40k what then? What happens if more that apply?

If you don't think that massive number of people who, by your own admission, are desperate for a new life wouldn't jump at the chance to live in a 1st world country you are out of your mind.

Apparently poor desperate families with no money can travel halfway around the world, without a passport, pay off people smugglers and get into countries.

If they can why can't others?

No you don't get it at all.

The point if people are as desperate as you say why would Australia saying 'no' deter them?

A 100 million apply, Australia says we will take 14k, 20k, 50k, 100k, whatever the number. 500k show up anyway. What do we do then?

50k showed up under Rudd. I guess they didn't get the memo that our refugee intake is only 14k.

You seem to have the idea that if we let in the 'right and fair' amount of refugees that the the other refugees will somehow think Australia has taken 'its fair share' and they will apply for protection somewhere else.

Yep, I do get the point, I just think it is paranoia. There is a fair gap between 50k and 100 million don't you think. Go and look at the places the refugees go to-they go to the closest places just about all the time. Of course more than you would like will still try to get here but the vast majority will simply cross the nearest border and that's it. Most of these people are too poor to get here. Luckily for you the tyranny of distance will defeat them ( yep economic refugees have cash-but they are in a minority, and they have asylum seeker claims that can be just as valid)
50k under Rudd? How many years are you talking about and how many of the 50,000 were accepted?
A 100 million aren't going to apply. Be great though wouldn't it?

How many would need to apply before you would think it was something to be concerned about? What do we do if that limit is reached?
