Let's say that an military/customs vessel becomes aware of a boat with asylum seekers in Indonesian waters that has been sabotaged by those on board. Given the international responsibilities combined with the elected Government's policy commitments I see nothing wrong with the military vessell entering Indonesian waters for the purposes of rescue, returning to international waters for the purposes of assessing the health and well being of the asylum seekers, and then returning to indonesian for the purposes of putting the asylum seekers onto a seaworthy vessel and directing them to sail away from Australia.

Regards

S. Pete
The navy are working under the "Operation Sovereign Borders" policy, it's different from answering a distress call, they went into another nations territory under the guise of the former, hence the concern from Indonesia.

People want the Coalition to fail.

If Indonesia don't want turn backs, don't allow them to leave.

Can't believe there are Aussies siding with Indonesia on this.
I think you will find this is not an Aussie v Indonesia issue as per Morrison's appology, it is because Australia breached International Maritime Law.

I'm talking in a more general sense.

There are those here that want Indonesia to be offended by everything Abbott does even though Indonesia an extremely petulant "friend".

The general issue is the RAN breached International Maritime Law hence Morrisons apology on the matter.

By Petulant do you mean like undertaking operations in another nations waters in contravention of maritime law?

No by petulant I mean Indonesia complaining about returning boats that leave from their shores.

They didn't mind our Navy entering their waters to escort boats to Christmas Island, and neither did many on this board now up in arms that our Navy went inside a bit.

Diplomatic relations going well

"The Government of Indonesia underlines that any such violation of whatever basis constitutes a serious matter in bilateral relations of the two countries," Agus Ruchyan Barnas said, speaking in Bahasa Indonesia.
"Indonesia demands that such operation conducted by the Australian Government that lead to [these] incidents be suspended until formal clarification is received and assurance of recurrence of such incidents has been provided."

WTF does that mean? "Our Navy went inside a bit"? Military vessels unless they are undertaking a lawful passage/transit don't work on the Pottsie2 BF Maritime Law of oh "our navy went inside a bit"!

I think Morrison is handling the media approriately when it comes to sovereign borders.
This is the height of delusion.

People like you are the enemies of an open, free thinking society that values competence, transparency and accountability.

It's ok to hide the truth, as long as it's done by my team. It's ok to blatantly lie in front of the camera, as long as it's done by my team. It's ok to support a system that tramples all over human rights, abdicates compassion and decency, as long as it's done by my team. It's ok to violate another countries sovereignty, by sending military vessels within their borders unilaterally, as long as it's done by my team.

Partisan thinking is a sickness, one that erodes away at ones humanity and reveals unthinking and despicable creatures unable to embrace ethics or morality at the individual level. Morrison is lying through his teeth, when he cannot hide the truth and is the keystone of a despicable system, that manipulates public paranoia to both distract from other political issues and allow gross human rights abuses.

Entering their waters was wrong. They have apologised.

If it happens again throw your arms in anger.

They were complaining about returns before this incident but yet here you are acting as if the Navy has been doing this for years.

Why are you so outraged over Indonesias sovereignty ?

Why not be outraged that Indonesia lets boats depart fron their shores that result in our sovereignty being abused ?

Well done you finally admitted they broke Maritime Law and where forced to appologise as I previously mentioned!

Is this a typical Pottsie2 d******d response?

No the Navy has not been breaching Maritime Law re the right of lawful passage/transit for military vessels for years!!!

What is this sovereignty to speak of Pottsie2, care to provide me a link to this in Maritime law or this another of your intellectual comments like your previous "Our Navy went inside a bit"?

Breaches of maritime law PottSie2 something you seem to have no understanding of!

Why not be outraged that Indonesia lets boats depart fron their shores that result in our sovereignty being abused ?
What is this sovereignty abuse you speak of, provide me a link to a relevant law will you?
