I see nothing wrong that I posted about bowen, surely you cant deny he said he would expel the refugees who trashed their centres they were living in and then didn't do so , another politician lie, and you ask why we are so against refugees, and we give you an example and your response is to belittle

I've already mentioned previously...those statistics are misleading because the UN has obviously used a "one size fits all" counting method when different countries treat asylum seeker/refugees differently.

Take Germany for instance who are a popular target for asylum seekers,

Not to downplay their efforts (as they do take in lots of refugees other ways too) but a large proportion of them fail to get permanent refugee status and are stuck on temporary protection visas for years...even decades without getting deported.

That may be a reason why they have such a large hosting number of 600 thousand while Australia has only a count of 20 thousand despite having a resettlement program of 13k a year. (as in once they get citizenship/permanent residency they don't get counted)

http://www.dw.de/for-refugees-in-germany-its-a-life-of-waiting/a-17179963
The UN story at SBS puts it this way:

While the Australian government grapples with a heated asylum seeker debate at home, it has emerged that developing countries are the ones bearing the brunt of the problem, hosting as many as four-fifths of the world's refugees.
Ever since Labor has been turfed out Smarts has taken to posting BS. Pity.

What Chris Bowen did or didn't say has no bearing on why you "are so against" refugees.

What you're saying is that because he didn't deport some people who protested against being imprisoned indefinitely without having committed any crime and in direct contravention of a Convention to which we are a signatory... that entitles you to be against asylum seekers in general?

Oh, and this (surprise! it's a bipartisan issue - each party is equally accountable)

I'm confused Jane.

Are you suggesting we should shoulder more of the burden that's currently placed overwhelmingly on developing countries?
Jane's suggesting that whatever our newly elected government does is the right thing to do, Jeff, and you should be happy that the adults are making these calls on our behalf. It's not our place (as children) to question anything that they say or do. We should watch and learn so that one day we can be just like them.

So, 63% of Australians think we're too soft on asylum seekers.

Perhaps, they all have a deep grasp of the subject with a firm understanding of the deterrent effect of specific policies to end a trade which has jeopardised people's lives.

Or perhaps we're just not as nice as we like to think we are.

I don't think you have a proper grasp of what that poll is saying.

As I read it, it's dropped from 63% in Oct 2010 to 25% in Jan 2014

The interesting number is that only 3% of LNP voters responded "too tough"

They clearly advocate a bit of water-boarding and pulling of toe/fingernails

With apologies to a truly great band

Manus, the meaning of pain
The way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Minister for Immigration
Four hundred thousand more to die

Minister for Immigration
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead

Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood
Destroying, without mercy
To protect the Australian people

Surgery, with no anesthesia
Feel the knife pierce you intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die

Minister for Immigration
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Minister for Immigration

Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last
In this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time
'til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
Operation Sovereign Borders

Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of
Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims
Left to die
Rancid Minister for Immigration
Flying free

I've always thought our humanitarian intake should be doubled, or even increased to 30K per annum.

The difference between what we do and the rubbish about "hosting" is that we are permanently resettling refugees here. At least we were before Labor gave control of the program to the people smugglers to sell to their clients. Industry has been worth around $800,000,000 to the people smugglers after August 2008.

All that's changed since September 7 and what a great thing it is.

Asylum seekers have accused the Australian Navy of beating them and inflicting burns by ordering passengers onboard a boat being towed back to Indonesia to hold on to parts of the engine.
ABC News has obtained video footage of asylum seekers receiving medical assessments of burns that Indonesian police say were inflicted by the Australian Navy.

As a poster on ABC put it

"I have never heard a more unlikely story in all my days - a group of people with a vested interest to undermine our Navy personnel claim that they were forced to 'hang onto' hot pipes coming out of an engine. I'd like to know how this was executed precisely, I mean, did our Naval Officers force their hands onto the hot pipes, were cattle prods or handcuffs used? Very unlikely indeed. The more likely scenario involves a web of lies being told by the 'asylum seekers' who are being coached by the people smugglers."

Another comment from the ABC website from Peter of Perth

"As a former RAN member with 21+ years service who is fully familiar with the standards of navy personnel, their training, their methods of operations and lastly, their bloody personal decency, I can assure anybody that the allegations from the illegal immigrants are false. Anyone who would believe a word of this utter bullshit is out of step with the reality of what the RAN has been doing since 2008 when this rubbish started thanks to Rudd. Get a grip Australia and support your navy as opposed to criminals who will say and do anything to smear decent ADF people who would never stoop to the levels they are accused of, never and who exactly wins from this sort of thing apart from the illegals, (they hope) the Indonesian politicians and of course let's not forget, the illegal immigrants very own Australian advocates who will take full advantage. Now I'll sit back and listen to Hanson-Young and her fellow travellers spin their BS in support of illegal economic country shopping criminals."

Someone is taking the country for a ride and it isn't the Navy.

Of course not . . . http://www.theage.com.au/national/a...als-insists-defence-chief-20130821-2sc08.html

Tackling issues of sexual, mental and physical abuse is one of the key challenges facing the Australian Defence Force within the next five years, says Chief of the Defence Force General David Hurley.

He said he "refuses" to allow people to use the term "it's a few bad apples", because in saying that, "I would be accepting that [the treatment of women] is random, and that there is nothing systematic about it".

Is this the same navy that Morrison suggested couldn't navigate its way around a paper bag last week?
