Richmond proved last year it’s best football is the best in the competition.

Very balanced team with star power and an efficient and effective system.

Like any premier, I’d imagine opposition coaches will be carefully analysing their game to plot out how to defeat it.

Is there a type of game that can take it up to the Tigers in 2020?

Yes the other 17 clubs need to take out a few Richmond players every week. Wear the suspensions and hope Richmond drop a few games in the process!

Easy. Beat their four good players.

Hang on, Rance has retired. Three good players.

Footy's a simple game sometimes.

No matter what they say its always bloody hard to maintain the hunger the year after a premiership. Other clubs are simply going to be more desperate than they are.

A lot of their best players are not exactly spring chickens either.

As always though it depends on whether other teams can step up.

Why wouldn't the Tigers be desperate? They are hungry for more success and I think it's more a case of other teams bringing the same intensity to the games. The Tigers wear teams down with their pressure footy and can do it for 4 quarters. There are plenty of teams that bring it for a half and then tire this is when the Tigers pounce. It is a simple game plan but very effective if all 22 players are on board and play as a team.

So what does all that mean ? Well I can see a clear picture that's even clearer if I posted another key piece of
information that I left out on purpose. You beat Richmond by holding a mirror up to them like any other team,
but their personnel is what makes them difficult to hold a mirror up to lots of sub 182 cm transition types.

Beat them in the air

Sir, I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once more able

That Richmond game late in season v West Coast was interesting.

Eagles started like a shot out of a gun with long kicks to their key forwards and had a thumping lead early in what looked like echoes of the prelim v the Pies.
Yet after quarter time, tigers tightened the screws and slowly strangled the Eagles.

Game perhaps though gave a glimpse of how they can be beaten.

Of course it's one thing to design a plan to win, another to actually have the skills to execute

Probably would’ve won by 10 goals if we weren’t down a player from the first quarter and a flood of biblical proportions didn’t occur after quarter time.

Still, Richmond did amazingly well in those conditions to come back from 7 goals down and handled the conditions much better.

Eagles never led by 7 goals in that game.

History shows pretty clearly that its very hard to back up after a premiership even when you are clearly the best team. Tigers already experienced this in 2018 when they were untouchable at the MCG until it came down to crunch time in the prelim and they just didn't have the same hunger as their opponents.

I think Tigers come into the season as equal favourites with the Eagles (certainly list wise they are top 2) but I don't expect them to walk away with the flag when all is said and done. I'm also thinking that the Tigers have been playing a similar brand for quite a few years and whilst its been very successful I reckon some coaches will have good ideas about how to combat it more effectively.

Didn’t rain until halftime when the Tigers were only down by 9 points
