At pre draft interviews (Combine) as asked by Mark Neeld why Melbourne would want someone that looked like a big long haired sissy.

Grundy responded with something like "Well you've got probably the softest midfield in the AFL so I wont be alone".

Neeld and all the MFC recruiters just stared and didnt know what to say.

Also GWS with SoS:

To understand Grundy's personality you have to hear what he said to Stephen Silvagni and the rest of the GWS recruiting crew last month.
After being quizzed during an interview, Grundy was asked if he had any questions.
"Why would I want to come to a club that's only been around for one year?" he said.

Funny how it's turned out with Grundy and Melbourne.

Guess you could say they Neeld over and chose to be more ruthless.

Carlton were set to pick Paddy Ryder at #4 in 2005 after taking Murphy with the first pick.

Collingwood pulled a suprise taking Dale Thomas at #2 leaving Ellis on the board for the Hawks (who were planning on taking Josh Kennedy).

If Collingwood had of selected Xavier Ellis at #2 - Josh Kennedy would have been a multiple premiership player at Hawthorn, and Paddy Ryder would have been traded back home to WCE as part of the Judd deal.

So Hawthorn almost had Buddy, Roughead and Kennedy in their forward line?

Something would've had to give.

As Roughead was the swingman, he'd've been more the defender than Kennedy and Buddy.

Freo's recruiters made a presentation to the board to explain why they were going to pick Stephen Hill over Daniel Rich.

Essendon would have taken either Hill or Sidebottom (who they were leaning towards as he was a huge Essendon supporter) at Pick #5 if Hurley wasn't still on the board.

I've always heard we were into Daisy Thomas until the pies took him, then we reacted by taking Ellis, I never heard this Josh Kennedy stuff until now?

You had him pegged in for Pick #3 according to our recruiter (Wayne Hughes) at the time:

A side story is that we visited Josh Kennedy and ‘Paddy’ Ryder on the Tuesday prior to the draft on the Saturday and suggested we’d probably get one of them. Not long after, Chris Pelchen the then Hawthorn Recruiting Manager rang me to say: “You’ve just wasted a trip to Perth to speak to Kennedy, we’re picking him at three (bearing in mind Carlton also held selection four)” – and it was always presumed that Collingwood, with selection two, would take Xavier Ellis.
