What is the best way to store dvds? I have a couple of those vertical towers, but I have since run out of room and was considering a different storage system. Any thoughts? How do you guys store your dvds? Cheers.

Years ago i used to just stack them all around the lounge room (inside the wall cabinet, on stereo speakers, on a dvd box conveniently placed/hidden behind one of the speakers, then in two plastic containers beside the couch, and gradually on top of those containers etc).

Early last year i moved it all into my bedroom, some of my "favorites" are on the top shelf of a book case (that previously housed my favorite videos). The majority is stored in various piles on the top two shelves in my clothing cupboard. I have two containers beside the book case, and my recent dvd purchases sit on top of that.

I used to store my purchased dvds in dvd folder wallets (big and small), stopped doing it when i noticed that they can be scratched a lot easier if they are kept in them  - no matter if the underside is resting on the back, or facing the plastic slip cover. I like to keep my dvds in AS NEW condition for as long as possible - i'd say most of my collection, dating back fr/om 2000/2001 are still scratch, dust or mark free.

Anywhere where people can see your significant collection is my theory. Mine are scattered in different cases and shelves and stackers etc around the house

They aren't overly cheap but AVEC storage racks are very sturdy and look cool. The shelves can easily be configured to accommodate DVDs or CDs.

I have around 400 DVDs and 1000 CDs in a variety of AVEC and Ikea racks, shelves and bookcases. The AVEC ones are by far the best.

 Damn that is awesome. :thumbsu: These AVEC storage racks sound very good, although as they are expensive I may consider getting them when I have more money. :D

Cheers for the suggestions guys. :thumbsu: I think I will just have to make some room on my currently existing book shelf.

Ikea often has some good DVD storage stuff, some which you can hang on walls. Here's an example of some of their storage stuff Link

Cheers JUBJUB. :thumbsu: The wall mounted storage device looks the goods.

My TV cabinet has heaps of space for storing DVDs. I have a couple of hundred and room for lots more. That reminds me, must go to JB Hi-Fi this afternoon.:thumbsu:

I have about 1300 DVDs in my collection. Personal DVDs are stored in 3 large bookcases, but when I build my next house I am going to get a series of DVD sized shelves built into the walls of the entertainment room. I forget what they are called, modern houses get little crevices and shelves built into walls for photo frames, vases, and other ornaments.

I also have about 4500 DVDs stored on 2nd hand DVD rental store shelving units. Picked them up for free. But have just ordered 14 DVD racks that will hold about 8000 DVDs from Ostar Shop Fittingshttp://ostarshopfitting.com.au/productDetail.asp?productID=202&categoryID=201 to expand the quantity I can fit in storage.

As you can probably tell, I am a DVD retailer ;)

I envy you.

Yep. That's the way to go.
I have close to 900 DVD's and I find that these save a lot of space.

A Mans DVD collection must be on display to throw other Men into awe and disbelief. When one Man enters another Mans "Man-Cave" the guest must not feel he is dominant. One way is to show him the overpowering DVD Collection. The DVD Collection is like a Mans version of Peacock Feathers, or antler size, or whatever other display animals use to show dominance and attract a mate. A petty folder containing DVDs does not show dominance. Be careful, one day a Man will enter your house and take your wife.

Discovery Channel ;)

I have hundreds 2 filing cabinets(little ones).
Wife bought a few folder zip bag for hers(also hundreds) the plastic is recycleing ( I thought plastic was supposed to last for ever):(

When they work out a quick and effective way to squash them onto a hard drive I will be happy.

My dad is an obsessive DVD collector, has over 2 000 (mostly cowboy films, war films, Hitchcock and tv shows from the 50s and 60s). He stores them in large DVD folders, which he keeps in the TV cabinet that is preventing us from getting a larger TV. Some are also hiding behind the couch.
