The Storm have been in similar situations throughout the past few years... only to drop down to the bottom half of the top 8 and get eliminated in the second round.

They're a good team, but I don't see them winning the premiership.

Someone must have seen me sniffing, becoz they have come into $9 ( still better value than St George at $6.50 IMO)...

I know that they have a reputation for late season choking, but really who is going to be beat them at seasons end ?...

Nth Qld ( a real threat for sure)
Brisbane ( too old and collapse worse at seasons end then the Storm have in the past)
Newcastle ( One injury away from not being able to beat Souths)
St George ( struggling, and not the best under the pressue of the big games)
Wests ( well, I'm hopeful, but they are having injury problems and not the team they were in the last couple of months last year)
Bulldogs ( hardly the most consistent side in the comp...)

I'm thinking that the Storm are one of the big chances this year....

Okay im gunna backpedal a bit. On there day the storm are a good side but its hard to overlook the fact that they have a strong history of falling late in the year.

Of the highlighted teams, only wests could prove me wrong, but lets hope they don't

Most talented team in the comp. And the best to watch.

Plus a string of home games - will see the Storm boys finish top 2.

More than a fair chance.

The signs look a bit different this year. Have already had good games on the round. Haven't played much at home yet. And this weekend, was the 1st time, Melbourne have strung together 4 consecutive wins since the 99 premiership.

Looking much more settled and solid than previous years. If Orford was still with us, I'd have my left nut on them going all the way.

Hang on, lets not go too far here, if they can get top4 they would have done well. Most talented team in the comp, thats crap. How many players did they have in origin last year nd it the test match??

International
Aust: king
N.z Kidwell nd webster (who isnt even a kiwi!)

SOO
NSW- .........................................
QLD - Cam Smith nd slater for 1 game (crocker not included)

If they were to be the most talented side in the comp, surley they would have more rep players.

I wouldn't say we were the most talented team but you can't rate our team on the amount of representative players we have either.

I reckon you can make a strong case that some of our players have suffered when these selections are made because they are out of the spotlight down here. I really think players have left Melbourne in the past not simply because of money but because they think they'll have a better chance of making these teams playing in New South Wales.

If you're in NSW or QLD and don't have Foxtel/Austar you wouldn't know a thing about the Melbourne Storm.

No need to 'hang on'. 100% stand by the claim - clearly the most talented squad in the comp. Look as though they

2006 Internationals - Webster, Kidwell,
SOO (QLD) - Inglis, Smith, Dallas Johnston (will play)
SOO (NSW) - King (+ international)

SOO missing due to suspension - Slater & Crocker

Throw in Scott Hill. (former International)

That's 9. More than handy, considering off season departures of Kearns, Orford & Bell.

But aside from the talent, more importantly, they are playing well as a team and don't rely on one player (i.e. Half Back to win games).

If they don't finish top 2, IMO, they will have under-achieved.

Well said. Smith, Johnson and Inglis are pretty much certainties for Queensland - and don't be suprised to see Matty Geyer named as a utility benchman for NSW along with King. :thumbsu:

Has anyone backed them??

I had a $50 on them at $9....

Not exactly a sheep station return, but enough to keep me interested on Sunday...:D

My prediction about the Broncos was out though....

I didn't but I've said from very early on that Melbourne would win but I also said that Canberra would be the wooden spooners which was way off the mark.

Still a smooth $450, buffalo. Better then a poke in the eye with a burnt stick.

About 2-2.5 months ago, a mate at work was urging me to get on a Swans/Storm double. He's been reminding me that i should have during the finals campaign. Wish i had of now.

i backed storm in many multiples at the start of the year when they beat brisbane by 30 points in a practice match, into geelong to win 5000, st kilda 5000, melbourne 5000 ,west coast 4000 , sydney 2000 all bets cost me 320 so go storm
