Melbourne Storm will, over a two-day period starting tomorrow, begin the bold plan of visiting more than 8,000 school children in 61 schools as part of its efforts to promote rugby league and a healthy lifestyle in Victorian schools.
High profile players such as Dally M Medallist Cameron Smith, Dally M Halfback of the Year Cooper Cronk, Queensland State-of-Origin representatives Michael Crocker, Dallas Johnson and Billy Slater, New South Wales and Australian representative Matt King, and New Zealand international Adam Blair, will talk at school assemblies highlighting the benefits of playing sport and leading a healthy lifestyle.
Storm Development State Manager Luke Ellis believes the schools blitz will encourage children to lead healthy lifestyles through interaction with professional athletes.
“Due to their busy training schedules, it’s difficult for players to fulfill all requests they receive each year from schools,” said Ellis.
“The ‘Storm Front’ Schools Blitz allows us to promote healthy lifestyles and to spread the Rugby League message, while taking our players out into the community at the same time.
“Melbourne Storm is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and physical activity throughout the schools of Melbourne. There is no better way to encourage sports participation and healthy eating than to have a professional athlete present the message first hand.”
