The old man went about his daily chores. He liked his job, it kept his mind off things. He was well into his 70s now, any little thing to stay active was fine by him. It was menial work, but he felt appreciated.

So many things, always kept running through his mind..

"Morning Gretel" he said to the receptionist, "Bin please".

Gretel gave him her bin, and he sorted the waste. "How are you Foss? Have a good week? Whats planned for the weekend?"

"Great thanks Gretel. Yeah, it's been fine. Not much this weekend. Might watch some footy, maybe head to the RSL with the missus. You have a good weekend too."

They were all so nice here at Richmond, so nice. Everyone really cared, it was like nothing he'd experienced in his whole life. He was grateful to experience this sort of work community now, but he could have done with it a long time ago.

Down the corridor he walked, passing the door of the GM Footy Ops. "Bin please Neil" said the old man. Neil Balme III, Richmonds newly appointed GM, handed over his bin to the old man. The old man emptied the bin full of empty Monte Carlo packets. "Don't forget mate, big lunch today. 50th Anniversary of the 2017 flag, all staff, everyone. Make sure you get there" said Neil.

This place was unbelievable, so inclusive. Here he was, a part time cleaner, and he was never left out. "Thanks Neil, I'm there for sure".

He finished off his bin run, cleaned the toilets, and cleaned himself up. He looked at himself in the mirror, Richmond polo, it felt right.

Everyone gathered for lunch, it was quite something. 95yo Damian "Dimma" Hardwick was there, the 7 time premiership coach, a club icon. Mrs Hardwick was there as well. Trent Cotchin was there, the 5 time playing 5 time coaching Premiership champion. Jack Riewoldt was there as well, the 4 time playing 5 time coaching Premiership champ. He hugged Cotch. It hadn't been easy, the handover between these two great mates. But for Trents health at the time, it had to happen, Brooke said so.

Since 2017 and the beginning of the "connection" era, Richmond had truly become the all conquering powerhouse of the league, dwarfing all other clubs. So whilst this was the 50th anniversary lunch for players and staff of the 2017 flag, it was also a celebrating of the awakening from the slumber. There was a real buzz around the room as the stories began, people reminiscing of days past. The drinks were flowing freely and the canapes weaved between guests.

He'd actually found himself listening to a conversation between Dimma and Cotch when suddenly didn't feel too good, he became light headed and the room began to spin. He grabbed Cotch by the arm and gasped "Help", before collapsing to the floor.

Dimma and Cotch were straight onto it. "MEDIIIIIC!! STAND BACK, GIVE HIM SOME ROOM". They bent down and tried to make him as comfortable as possible. But in his heart, the old man knew this was the end, he could actually feel his heart exploding in his chest, it was a massive, massive heart attack.

He looked up at Dimma and Cotch from the floor, gasping and wanting to say one last thing..."Cotch, Cotch" he wailed.

Cotch bent closer "Yes Adam, what is it?"

"Cotch.......you.....had.. the.....better......lisssst" he exhaled, and slumped.

There was a tear escaping from the corner of Cotchs eye as he put his hands over Treloars eyes to close them.

"I know mate" Cotch whispered "I know".
