Straight Sets

Prior to the ones mentioned by the OP, west coast imploded in 07, including losing in over time in one, and Port had a rocky finals record early on.

No really obvious link for those who have suffered it since, will potentially suffer it this weekend, so presumably we'll all blame the fixture?

It's odd, from my point of view, if we do go out, I'll be disappointed but not shattered. Similar too 2016 but in different ways. 2016 was sort of 'well, we got three, great run, such is life'.
This year, I'm happy we are getting two finals into our young blokes. The Richmond game alone, that provided them a massive lesson in finals pressure. Hoping they learnt from it.

Had we gone straight sets in, say, 14 or 15, I would have been ropeable

Felt they played their gf last week. Put absolutely everything into it. Think the Giants might have too much run.
Pendlebury quiet, DeGoey quiet, Cox quiet, Grundy relatively quiet, Treloar first game in weeks, Howe first game in weeks. Goldsack first game all year.
We have plenty upside after a narrow interstate loss.
Back home at the G now.
The plan for playing our GF, is in the GF.

I've been really impressed with the Pies this season, super resilient. Don't deserve to bow out in straight sets, I'm backing them to win at home on the mighty G.

Correct

Yet you argue somehow finals losses are positives for Hawthorn

Given you went out straight sets 2 years back cant see how a repeat of that is any better than bowing out last week
We’re better than you, we win most of our finals , ergo we learn from the experience.
You don’t.
See how it works?

More likely to happen then not I would have thought

I’ve never got the fascination with it . Always just seems something for people to hang their hat on if their side hasn’t made finals or goes in week 1.

From a Hawthorn perspective we’ve finished top 4 and we aren’t a genuine top 4 side IMO , a lot of people wouldn’t have had us even making finals.
As such Richmond and Melbourne are sides who before this season and heading into finals are far higher rated then us .
It’s all finals experience this season

I’m sure a lot of ‘neutrals’ will still celebrate as if their own side has done something if it happens though
