My bet is they will plummet next year, they completely sabotaged themselves and it was the most predictable result in finals history. It's the price you can pay for having a good season. More embarassing is when your club is in the position of North/WC to be honest. Having in recent times experienced both, I'd prefer straight sets than the basket case we were in the mid 10's.

Finishing 9th is the most embarrassing. Wooden spoon is embarrassing but at least the clubs usually spin they’re rebuilding and get a good draft pick. 9th suggests you were trying to compete but couldn’t make the cut to even compete and don’t even get the consolation of a good pick.

The Crows were one of the most dominant teams in any of those years. I'd argue St Kilda were the last dominant team to bow out.

Adelaide had already built a fortress all season and didn't really have too many iffy games at home even the Showdown they got the job done in a game they probably won by more on the sheets. To lose both finals after being in so much control is damning.

I think what I've heard is accurate. They didn't rotate enough players, they got complacent, they got hunted and couldn't adapt.

Add to that, when you build a side on a mediocre midfield, and a top heavy forward line it's an easy proposition to strategically shut it down like Collingwood and Hawthorn did.

For us a team that has done nothing bar a prelim loss in the last 2 decades but Pies supporters still make it an us Vs them in a thread that is neutral is humbling!
