PNG Sambia tribe in which when pre-pubescent boys are taken away from their mothers and kept in secluded bachelor camps. The boys are then taught to fellate the older post-puberty boys and men for the sole purpose of ingesting semen as it is thought that boys need this to reach puberty and eventually grow into strong warriors. First time I heard about this during my travels, I thought is was bullshit but later discovered that it indeed happens in at least to PNG tribes. Truly a WTF moment was had.

Sounds like a great scam dreamed up by some Sambia elder with a little boy fetish.

^^

Very much so, yeah.

PNG has long been under scrutiny for an underbelly type culture of wide-spread Pedophilia as well.

I've heard of a Fijian practise of cutting slits in the topside of the head of the penis and placing ball bearings beneath the skin. This is apparently to assist with stimulating the women's g-spot during intercourse.
Now, I'm all for looking after your lady friends whilst copulating but bugger that, that's some insane dedication right there. It probably explains why I've never met an uptight Fijian woman though...

I've always thought that venerating failed bush rangers, and slaughter in far off lands to be a touch unusual.

Settle down mate - don't you have a black man's land to exploit?!

Seems strange now, but in the Victorian era, Post-Mortem photography was quite popular.

Photography was relatively new but not overly accessible, and often the only photo taken of a person was when they died. It was considered a way to hang on to and honor their memory. Many of the photos are of children, as it was common for people to die very young back then.

I first heard about it watching the movie 'The Others' and thought it to be quite creepy. Ii still kind of is in a way (heck, a lot of old photos are) but I can appreciate why they did it. Nowadays some people do it with stillborn babies.
