Extremely rare shorts, considering Sydney didn’t wear white shorts until 2011 and well before 2000View attachment 789480

Must be from the Round 11 2000 match against Brisbane.
SY 2000 11.jpg

In 2000 the AFL attempted to introduce the sensible policy of “the team with more white in their guernsey wears white shorts”.
As such, Melbourne only wore white shorts in 4 of their 26 games that year, and Sydney wore white shorts at home against Brisbane.

Throughout the 2000's, a single sponsor supporting multiple clubs was reasonably common, leading to the unusual occurrence of the same sponsor, with a similar or the same logo, appearing on both of the competing teams jumpers during the same match

In Round 2 2002 North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs wore the blue and white variants of the Mazda logo on the front of their jumpers respectively

134038.jpg

The same occurred in Round 17 2002, where they both had variants of the Mazda logo on the front of their jumpers

136222.jpg

iPrimus appeared in two different variants on Melbourne and the Kangaroo's jumpers in the 2004 Wizard Cup

171148.jpg

Again with these two teams, front and back for Melbourne and back for the Kangaroos, in Round 9 2004, this time in different colourways

172187.jpg 172203.jpg

Round 11 2005 saw a similar occurrence, however iPrimus was on the front of the Kangaroos jumper this time

56406.jpg

And in the same setup as the 2004 H&A season occurrence, Round 5 2006

And again in Round 20 2006, the only thing different this time being the home team

The second last time of the iPrimus/Primus Telecom matchup occurring was Round 9 2007* **

In Round 13 2007 Brisbane and Port Adelaide both wore different versions of the Vodafone logo on front of their jumpers **

These two sides both wore the same Vodafone logo on the back of their jumpers in Round 4 2008 (+ Brisbane with the stacked variant on the front)

130411.jpg

Both North Melbourne and Brisbane wore the same Vodafone logo on their backs in Round 18 2008 (Brisbane on the front as well)

156492.jpg

Round 22 2008 saw North Melbourne carry the Vodafone on the back of their jumpers, while Port Adelaide carried it on the front

158785.jpg

Round 7 2009 saw the Power and Lions have the same Vodafone logo on the back of their jumpers (with Brisbane using the stacked version on the front)

186817.jpg

In Round 21 2009, Port Adelaide and Brisbane had the exact same Vodafone logo on the front of their jumpers (Brisbane with the stacked on the front as well)

192638.jpg

By 2010, the sponsors of each club were unique (aside from manufacturers), leaving Round 21 2009, the only time that the exact same logo appeared in the exact same position on differing teams jumpers as the final time this phenomenon occurred

Credit must go to footyjumpers.com who's vast resources allowed me to research into the occurrences, as well as aflphotos.com.au for the images from the majority of the matches

Great research.

Made me think of the first such occurrence; Brisbane and Carlton both had CUB on the front from 1992–95.

I was thinking of sponsors from back then but that one didn't even cross my mind, great find :thumbsu:

I thought this Bears logo from the 1991 Fosters Cup record was interesting, I haven't seen it anywhere else.

Late reply but I found some footage of it in Round 1 1992.
Here it is on the team benches.

Was also on some of the advertising boards around Carrara. I assumed that they introduced it with the new guernsey in 1992.

The Round 1 1992 match between Brisbane and Carlton was strange and interesting:

Brisbane debuted their new guernsey and new logo, the one featured earlier in this thread.
Both teams had the same guernsey sponsor, Carlton United Breweries, the first occasion this occurred.
Carlton were inconsistent in front of goal, going from 1.7 early in the second quarter to 13.14 at full time.
And four players were taken from the ground on stretchers.

Andrew Cavedon, concussion, 14 minutes into the 1st Quarter
1992 1 S1.png

Shane Hamilton, dislocated elbow, 12 minutes into the 2nd Quarter
1992 1 S2.png

Martin Leslie, shirtfronted, 5 minutes into the 3rd Quarter
1992 1 S3.png

Paul McCormack, concussion, 12 minutes into the 3rd Quarter
1992 1 S5.png

And Matthew Campbell became one of the last players not to leave the ground under the Blood Rule, 12 minutes into the 3rd Quarter

Jason Dunstall played 269 games between 1985 and 1998.

If you can’t remember him wearing white shorts it is because he only wore white shorts in three matches.

Round 15 1988, against Brisbane at Carrara, kicked 9.2
Dunstall 1988 15.png

Round 2 1993, against Sydney at the S.C.G., kicked 6.3

Ladies and Gentlemen, Akon. Great photo, but the article it was used in is even better.
