Time for a shake up.

I think Longmuir, Graham, Hickmott and Gepp have all been there long enough with insufficient return so it's time to move them on.

Totally, totally agree. Development and fitness staff all need replacing with high-quality, no-nonsense, proven hard-nuts too. Not just retiring players who would 'suit the role'.

Not Hickmott, I have only heard good things about him. The others, I agree with. Mitchell and likely Petrie to come in is a good start to freshen up the coach's corner. Need another.

Coaching staff needs some more mongrel in it and a tactically minded coach.

I've been bullish about getting Eade in since he was sacked. Not sure what his family situation is like but he'd compliment the coaching staff well.

Schofield has been mentioned for roles in the past but has business and family constraints in WA. His eldest has now graduated from high school but he has a daughter in High School still. Time to move on him now. His right to step straight into a line role rather than going development pathway.

I'd happily let Longmuir go if he wanted to.

Graham was promoted hastily from EP in my opinion. Not sure if he has a strong future at the club.

Structure for 2018

Simpson - Head Coach
Eade - Senior assistant/ tactician
J. Schofield/ Mitchell - Midfield
Mitchell - Stoppages
Cox - Ruck
Pratt - Back line and team defence
Hickmott/ Petrie - Forwards

Think it's important to bring in another specialist stoppage coach again. Mitchell suits the role.

How long was he at Freo? They're famous for failing to take advantage of Sandilands' hitout dominance.

Freo have had a very good midfield in his time at the club. IF anything it was the mids not having anything to kick too.

Stone could be handy but only if he is the sort of guy to move with the times as he has been around for a while now.

Heard hackdorn on the radio this morning and he mentioned Longmuir has been offered a 3 year deal at the pies.

Mark Stone is who we want/need in this role

Stone is a quality stoppage coach I agree. Need to consider him if his available and interested. Need to make him interested.

Think he was in charge of stoppages at the Swans in the 2000's as well. Wasn't pretty footy that there mids played but it was damn effective.

Before Sydney think he was also previously at the Eagles - not sure if it was the Cousins, Judd, Kerr era or whether it goes back to when Malthouse was coach and the midfield consisted of Matera, Mainwaring, Evans etc?

Think Mark Nicoski is one of the development coaches?

This is true and as great a guy Nico is...he's never suited the role.

West Coast needs to get out of the habit of offering coaching gigs to former players / ex-team-mates UNLESS they are the number one candidate for that position.

So while Drew Petrie has retired, I'm very cautious in thinking that having him as a coach at the club would be a good thing. Petrie and Simmo are best mates both in and out of football. This in itself could be concerning, because of our record in employing mates and team mates. Petrie is both to Simmo....and Simmo has proven that he is yet to surround himself with a high-quality coaching panel that can affect real change (eg - winning in Melbourne).

I'm not saying Petrie shouldn't be considered, as he might actually be the most skilled and knowledgeable person for a job within the coaching circles at West Coast. But all things considered, with the way things are right now, the Eagles need hard, experienced, proven coaches who will relate to each other on a professional basis...not retiring team mates and friends who could bring conflict-of-interest to the table.

Stop looking after mates and start filling the coaching box with the next premiership in mind!

Whilst I agree that ex-players may not be good coaches, I was speaking to a current AFL assistant coach last year (former player) and he said that the chemistry between the coaches is the most important thing so being mates is really important. It wasn't said in a self-serving way but more that it is such a taxing industry that they have to be able to work well together and really get along.

I guess it all depends on the personality and character of the particular coach...and who they're speaking to (and their personal / professional relationship with the person or people they're dealing with) at the time.

In the words of Paul Roos, "successful coaches aim to be (and are) respected first, and liked second".

Eade has a crap record and has been sacked 3 times. Agree with Graham. Nobody has mentioned Webster who hasn't done much at EP and was development coach at Carlton during their worst period of development?

Dean 'the weapon' Robinson might get the boys sticking tackles. He's also willing to do whatever it takes to get results ;)

Wade is prob a great choice - when simmo started he was a new coach and the idea of a seasoned coach like him being there could be undermining but now he’s established there’s no chance of eade being made head coach it could be a real coup.
