I think using bench press as a tool to determine the strongest in a sport like football is misguided, I rarely see players on their backs pressing players into the air, isolating their pecs and triceps. If one lift had to be used, I'd be much more interested in knowing who has the best deadlift numbers.

We have no monsters now, but believe it or not. I'm certain Angus Graham did somewhere around the high 150-160kg a couple of years ago where he was carrying a lot more size. Any of the stocky pissants like a Kerr as mentioned should lift the most, their arms are only 20cm long less distance for the weight to travel.

West Coast put out a video recently about how our players go in the gym and without being too specific, or weights coach said that Hurn and Mitch Brown need to be held back because they respond so well to lifting and that Masten was in the top 3 for strength, pound for pound.

Clearly Masten's training the house down isn't just limited to the track :thumbsu:

I was once told that Jonathan Brown benched 150kg as a warm up. I can't remember who told me so there's probably not much truth to that.

Pretty sure Brown's best bench is around 160kg, a club record just in front of Lynch' 157.5kg. He told me at a club function last year that they had a weights benchmarking session the following day and he was expecting to do 4 x 135 on the bench.

Don't think Mal Michael ever benched anything like 180kg, I thought Gehrig was the all-time best at 172.5kg. Wilkinson's 160kg is very impressive if true.

Rich full-squatted 5x 180kg during the week at 82kg bodyweight, which is good going.

The article I read claimed he also owns the Suns 2km time trial record (as someone mentioned above).

Dude must be some kind of freak to be setting records in both areas, either that or the Suns might be doing a little creative accounting.

Weights records are particularly prone to inaccuracy because of the different range of motion you can get away with if you don't have professional judges watching you.

He is a world class athlete has the quickest 20m sprint time as well, if wasn't playing footy would represent Australia at the olympic's.

He is the best athlete to ever make it to afl level.

An article I read recently said Angus was in the top echeleon for strength at the Crows now.

Surely the deadlift weights in those articles are wrong. Kid weights. I know of a former Newcastle Knights winger who can deadlift 350kg.

2 of the 3 are listed as four reps though, not one rep max.

The 115kg guy deadlifting 185kg for one rep seems a little light for a 'strongman' though.
