I'm 31, so been watching since about '84.

FB: C.Bolton, Dunkley, Neagle
CHB: Roos, Bayes, Kennelly
C: Goodes, G.Williams, Maxfield
CHF: D.Lewis, Hall, O'Keefe
FF: T.Moorwood, Lockett, O'Loughlin
FOLL: Jolly, Kelly, Healy
INT: Kirk, Stafford, D.Murphy, Cresswell

Gee.. that was tough. The ruckmen were the toughest. We've had a lot of OK ruckmen, but not too many great ones.

It's your opinion about ruckman, but i would have thought since you were watching Jason Ball would be 100 times better player than Stafford, also Barry Round was a great ruckman and won a Brownlow.
It showed up how bad a player Stafford was when he went down injured (probably with a heart ) Goodes took over an showed how to impose yourself on the game.

Important in our flag no doubt but I didn't rate him anywhere near as highly as most other swans fans. I reckon Stafford was the better footballer. His last year or two at the Swans have clouded people's judgements. From '96-'98 he was excellent. Ball was a better tap-ruckman, but Stafford was better around the ground in my opinion.

Round was in the twilight of his career when I started watching footy so I didn't see enough of him to put him in.

Stafford wouldn't have been capable of the tap out to Davis or the one to Monty in the GF

Lewis may not have lived up to his full potential but he was still a bloody good player on his day. If you look back through our lists over the past 15 years or so it's very difficult to find someone worthy of replacing him.

As I stated before, the decision between Kirk and Kel was a tough one but I chose Kirk based on the fact that this is a side I would actually send out to play. If I was basing the captaincy purely on who deserved it more then Kel would win hands down.
i agree lewis was a freakish player
there's a similarity with nick davis, in that neither really lived up to potential but got by simply because they were naturally amazing footballers

thank goodness i wasn't the only one to question that pair
Why dont you comprise your own team then? :)

This is a really good thread. I say this respectfully but some of you have been around for a bit longer than others, and have seen some of the Swans greats that us younger (or more recent) fans werent around to see. :thumbsu::)

The frightening thing Rancid is that someone might put Mchack in and i'm not joking
Nowhere near our best ever but 'McHack' is a tough call. Not willing to admit that he's improved? Most improved player in our side and would be top 3 in the B&F at the moment.

Maybe rancid is worried we'll discover his age when we see Nash and Pratt in his forward line :p

Very good side. I notice you included Capper where others didn't. I would have thought that besides being a total knob he was definately a worthy selection in the forward line of any swans team of the past 20-30 years. He was my favourite player when I was about 8 years old and I still remember tearing my poster of him apart and crying for days when he went to the bears. A few months ago I found an old swans autograph book from my childhood. I was looking through it and discovered much to my dismay that in my disgust at the time I must have scribbled all over Cappers autograph.

Great side, any room for Murphy or Mitchell? Could replace Lewis/Kickett maybe.
