We didn't fluke being a top 8 side.

2002 era
Tarks Presti Wakes
Johnson Clement Burns.

That was a defence.

Then

2007 era
Johnson Presti Wakes
Tarks Maxwell Toovey

Gun defences.

It's curious you went for the 2002 defence - presumably because we played in the GF - and then went for the 2007 defence pre-nothing. I wonder why?

Could it be that the 2010 GF defence included some very inexperienced AFL defenders in Brown and Reid and that doesn't suit your argument? Your arguments are becoming pure satire now.

The 2010 GF was solid. Presti at full back all but the GF.
Maxwell Reid Shaw Toovey. Hard to beat also.

The problem now is we have three guys in that defence with ACLs. Never as good after it with Scharneberg the 4th.

Will depend largely on the opposition but I wouldn't discount the possibility of all 3 playing some games. Brown clearly the 1st choice.
Nathan Brown 140k for Supercoach, would be ncie if he can average around 60 :)

Brown ACL
Toovey ACL
Keeffe ACL (spud)
Scharenberg ACL

Not great for key backs.

Your hate for Keefe is getting as tiresome as your old MM versus Buckley rants that appeared on every thread for months on end. I don't mind reading your opinion on a subject once, I just despair when you repeat the same issues over and over and over and over and over again on multiple threads.

The whole idea of a discussion board is to discuss issues. Not repeat the same discussion under a different thread title over and over again.

Probably the slowest defence in the league

Will be turn apart by any small forward line.

Needs Marley Williams
Agree. Slow defence with lack of foot skills. Williams won't improve that. Williams isn't THAT quick. Williams is short and goes at the footy hard but thats about it. As for his foot skills let's not go there.

Neither Seedsman or Williams are incredibly quick, but they have the balls to take the game on consistantly, which is borderline impossible to teach in my opinion, so they deserve brownie points there.

Hawthorns backline isnt incredibly quick, but most if not, all of them are great readers of the play.
you can be the quickest forward in the game, but no matter what, youre going to get miss kicks coming to you and thats where the Scharenberg, Langdon and Reid types become real pain in the asses.

as far as my backline goes
FB: Jack Frost, Nathan Brown, Marley Williams
HB: Tom Langdon, Ben Reid, Matt Scharenberg
Wing: Paul Seedsman
Bench: Alan Toovey

Taking the game on is fair enough but can you do it without being caught? Harry was the best at it and we've lost him. Seedsman gets caught holding the ball too much. As does Young. No awareness and often find themselves just kicking long and blind.

Marley Williams and Paul Seedsman barely get caught, especially Marley because of his sidestep. I agree that Lumumba was the best at it and Young gets caught too much.

Agree on the speed, but depending on match ups either of Williams, Seedsman, or Marsh can be rotated down there for Frost.

Lack of footskills? Reid, Scharenberg, Maynard, Langdon and even Keeffe are (or reputed to be) above average by foot for position.

The pattern of events as I see it:

1. TG posts. A smattering of truth generally taken to excessive levels with some attitude from in.
2. Other posters reply. One of two approaches normally dominates. That is to either try and nail down where TG is wrong or to point out the damage is posts are doing to himself and this board.
3. TG responds as per step 1. Process continues until thread becomes mindlessly boring and/or numerous frustrated posters resort to abusing TG.

Now I am just a lurker with no real idea on much at all but maybe this pattern would change if people stopped following step 2?

We lack the short sharp passes to dangerous positions that open up play further down the ground.
