More info on Stuart Dew

Dew’s long and accurate kicking made him a firm favourite with Power fans as he had the ability to swing a match within minutes. A fine utility who won a Rising Star nomination in 1998.

From SA club Central District, he came off a patchy 2000 to start 2001 in dazzling style. Early in his career his output at times was hampered by weight problems. His thumping left boot was an important asset to the Port forward structure in 2002. As a classic half forward he often showed the ability to swing games with electrifying bursts.

In Port’s shock loss to Collingwood in the first qualifying final he almost pulled the game out of the fire. Dew deservedly ran 10th in the club championship. He missed all bar two games in the opening half of 2003 due to osteitis pubis, but gradually picked up form by the time the finals arrived.

He started 2004 in slashing style with six goals against Essendon in round 1, but then had a season where his form wavered considerably and saw him dropped on three separate occasions. He hung on to his place for the finals and produced some important goals when it mattered most. He was a worthy member of the 2004 premiership team.

After a very good 2005 season, Dew’s form and fitness waned in 2006 as he lost enthusiasm for football, retiring at the end of the 2006 season. After a year away from the game he was drafted by Hawthorn for the 2008 season.

I remember when he was a junior he was touted as being one of the up and coming superstars of the game.
He had all the talent but just a few weight issues may have held him back?
Anyway he does have 2 flags to his name and many great memories and goals. Not many players can say that.

Having watched the "Making Their Mark" series, I reckon Dewy looks the goods as a senior coach but has a few things to learn. Maybe the documentary team wasn't given access to that vision.
He has a great affinity with his players and staff. The only issue I could see is whether he has a side to him where he can get stuck into his players without losing them. Its all well and good saying "we are doing most things right", you need to correct those things you are not doing well to succeed.
