Hard copy report in The Australian I read today that says Dew pulled his hammy in the 3rd term of the 08 GF.

Apparently Andrew Russell (runner on the day) on hearing this tells Dew (before his legendary 5 minute burst) to go forward and run away from the ball to create space for everyone else. After doing this he goes full beast, kicking those 2 goals and plays the key support role in Willo’s as well.

Never knew this about one of the most famous 5 minutes in club history.

The article also speculates that Dew lost about 30kgs between August 07 and the 08 GF.

Makes that 5 minutes more legendary

The article also mentions the chaos on the bench that day. By the time of Dew’s injury, Croad and Young are already out and Changa’s shoulder is busted up. Just about rivals 89 as a war of attrition.

Hodge playing through busted ribs. Think Mitchell had the webbing in his finger split.

Whiplash thread of the year.

Was gutted to read that Dew had retired AGAIN when I saw this thread bumped.

But then stoked to read how much more impressive his and the team's 3rd quarter actually was.

Bung hammy Dew and Williams belted those hand-baggers into submission.

Benchless in the last, and we still closed it out.

Scarlett, Taylor and Milburn et. al. should be hanging their heads in shame at this news. As should Ablett, Bartel and co. Special shoutout to Cam Mooney. But he's had plenty since I reckon.

Favorite Geelong supporter take on this game: 'it was like some teenager and a fat dude from the stands came in and beat us'.

Dont forget Brent Renouf tagging otters out of the game

So we beat the self-proclaimed "Greatest Team Of All" with a first year Cyril and a bunch of Busteds. I think Bud may also have been carrying an injury that day (and indeed, right throughout September).
Most Legendary Premiership Win Of All Time, or at least equal most with '89. 😍

Naahh 89 was the best

Went alright did buddy.
Dunno what Buddy was on about as the scans showed nothing lol. But def worth listening to the Andrew Russell interview on 'Sacked'. He's a deadset guru, and offers plenty of few fascinating insights, incl how they got Cyril ready for the 2014 GF. Carlton def ****ed up big time getting rid of him, and no coincidence they've fallen apart since.

It was so typical of Carlton spend 15 years chasing him and get rid of him after less than 5 when injury prone players get told to play through injury and get injured further.
