Get that I don't have runs on the board but I'm going to come right back here when announced. Member since 2011 and hardly posted... Wonder if that's coz I would only share real information?

Maybe you're right, and I don't mind being proven wrong, but you can't blame us for being cynical.

Goodwin just been confirmed to Melbourne.

Dew to Crows looking likely.

Rhyce Shaw has stated before that he wants to get into coaching and has done a course for that intention so if he retires, given how much the club loves him you'd think they would offer him a spot.

Josh Francou is also an experienced coach so I have to think he is waiting for an opportunity to ascend from development to match day coaching.

Would look highly likely Dew would be in the #1 spot for senior coach at Adelaide then but as others have said, why if you are demanding success within two years would you put a rookie coach in? Either way, whoever the choice is MUST already be confirmed because even the most incompetent board in the world wouldn't sack a guy with 2 years left, have to pay him out and then go, "well who do we get now?"

Only other option I see is Thompson, who I believe is close to Sanderson and more or less told the media he wouldn't go near a club that treats their coach like that.

Why replace a rookie coach with a rookie coach?
They should target someone like Mark Williams.

Agree. I think William's deserves an opportunity again at senior level. I hear that Williams can get himself offside with people.

I think if Dew’s wife likes her job in Sydney, then there is no rush for Dew. He only stopped playing at the end of 2009. He can continue to learn under Longmire and build a reputation as the next senior coach in waiting.

I think the fact that Goodwin has gone to Melbourne instead of the Crows (who he has close ties with) serves as a big beware warning. He may be friends of Ricuto, but he chose not to work for him.

Really surprised this name doesn't come up more often in coaching discussions.

Another name I wouldn't rule out making a play for the Adelaide job would be Nathan Bassett.

Why would you want to coach that rabble anyway

As a coach you would love an opportunity to coach anywhere. Crows have ridiculous standards though. They came exactly where their list is. They have about 8 elite players, but jeez they have some dead ordinary players.

Sanderson is free if we need an assistant

Dew can have the crows job if he wants it i would bet

Facing harsh facts Horse is going to be at the club longer than Dew will be prepared to wait surely.

A "swap" would be interesting to say the least but I am fully resigned to losing Dew and fair enough as well.

They lost to Melbourne back in round 7 who only managed 4 wins for the year.
That was the coach killer.
Had they won that and they may have made the finals.
Different story now.

Well they also lost to Essendon, North, etc. They had the draw from the angels. If they couldn't make the finals this year..

Leaving out the rest of your quote and your points are valid. It seems that if your a Victorian at the Crows and your their coach you don't get the slack you get if your from South Australia. Now lets see how that plays out for a South Australian with ties to Port Adelaide.

If we lose Dew, Sanderson had a great record at Geelong after spending 2006 at Port Adelaide after retirement, we could try and get Kirk back home or hit up the ranks of the SANFL, WAFL or VFL again or see who is available from the retired players that is of interest.

But being realistic we'll either promote from the development coaching ranks or bring Micky O'Loughlin over from the Academy.

I just see massive holes in their list, their midfield apart from Sloane and Danger is very pedestrian, and they wonder why they had to recruit FA's in Pods/Betts. Their forwardline was a one trick pony in Walker. Talia aside their backline has issues still. Shows how good Talia was this year!

Leigh Tudor is the standout assistant but he'll only move you would assume if there is a succession plan. Not a fan of 'mates' coming back to coach, how often does it work? No to Kirk and Micky O.

Absolutely with you on the first point. From the sounds of it, the Board and Sanderson were in very different places when it came to where they each thought the list was placed and that means Sanderson thought it was in much better shape than the Board. Sanderson has been guilty of really overrating his list I think. You constantly heard him talk up how good they are but also how young they are, how great their future was. He seemed to always be in the minority there.
