Question becomes how long do you want to wait? Longmire could still coach us for 10 more years for example. At least 15 senior gigs could come up by then. Some people might also want the challenge of re-building a club other than getting gifted a good listSomething that has amused me in these discussions for coaching is whether or not the actual coaches want to go to a rabble like Carlton. Why would Dew leave us when he's pretty much heir apparent at Sydney? Potentially Bolton for Hawthorn too. Nonsensical.

Any senior gig is better than an assistant gig.
Yep, it all depends on whether or not Horse wants to do this for another 5/10 years.
I don't have any issues if Dew does leave, he deserves a chance as a senior coach. Just not sure someone who has done terms under both Hawthorn and Sydney would go to a list like Carlton. It's not even as though there is anything to work with there either. At least there was some substance for the Adelaide/Gold Coast position. Carlton has one of the worst lists I've seen for a while.
From another perspective, Dew or any other coach at a successful club might see Carlton as an opportunity and challenge to build a club from the bottom up entirely in his own vision.
Whoever the club hires to coach along with Silvagni will have their vision for a good club enacted. It could blow up in their face but it could give them a lot of satisfaction too.

The difference between Carlton now and Carlton when Mick took over, was the hype of the list. Everyone has no excuse not to see Carlton as a shitty list unlike 2013 when they made the semis (yes finished 9th I know) and could be considered decent but missing a few pieces. So now even the board have to know and see they need a full and proper rebuild which if a coach is game for, would take over.Yep, it all depends on whether or not Horse wants to do this for another 5/10 years.

The issue I have with that is I don't know if the Carlton administration/board have got the recent history to have the trust of potential candidates. I get your perspective and see the logic but at the end of the day it doesn't change that they went back on their word re: keeping MM until at least end of 2015, and supporting him in a 'rebuild' (even if they didn't use those words) amongst other claims which never eventuated. I know MM was brought in to win premierships and they severely overrated their list, but the recent action by the Carlton administration wouldn't exactly fill me with a lot of confidence.

If Carlton were smart they would pick a coach and give them full control to build the list almost from scratch to help with the rebuild. If you were going to do a full rebuild, and a long term job I would pick Carlton over NorthYeah but carlton? north is unhappy with brad scott, even richmond are murmoring about moving on hardwick and roo's is likely to finish up as coaching the dee's next year.
Everyone of those clubs are in a better spot then carlton and they come without the internal shit fighting at carlton.

That'd be a condition on signing on. Club is a basket case. They need to be told that by someone willing to help. Tough love is needed at Carltonthats not what carlton do though, carlton is a factional mess always has been. Hoping they give you control is a massive leap of faith.

Fair enough. Just from a list point of view, I would rather rebuild Carlton than take over Richmond or North only to cause a rebuild in 2 or 3 yearsBut that puts you in a tough spot. once your head coach they can undermine you to set their agenda. If you walk you lose out and you'll have a shit fight as they'll try to stop you going to another club. I think this is why there's a chorus of no's instantly. People don't trust carlton.
....However if you don't, you will not get another chance anywhere....I guess if you can turn Carlton around you will be a genius
Crisis presents opportunity

Depends how to board are I guess. If they stop being woeful then being competitive is suddenly at least 5 years earlierI don't think I agree with that,
Cartlon are a rabble, We all know it. Are we really going to think whoever takes them on is a shit coach if they don't succeed immediately?
