Probably not as many parents around to run that stuff now. Especially by the time kids are high school age, not going to be many stay at home mothers.

My mum worked and only did a lunchtime or 2 a once every few weeks, but then you also had the mothers that were there almost every day.

In a school of say 1000 students you only need about 5-10 parents with 3-4 hours of spare time.

We used to head over to the local fish n chip shop at lunchtime in high school and play the latest coin op. My fave was Gyruss.



The handheld Domkey Kong game was another favourite.

A mate of mine has kids at primary school and says all the kids there have their own iPads for learning in class, the only technology we had was a calculator.

We had to build our own abacus in grade seven woodwork.

Does the school provide it, or put it on some sort of payment plan? I know when I was in school 15-20 years ago, a new pair of $20 school shoes from Target needed to be budgeted for. No chance in hell Mum would be shelling out for iPads.

We had Sim City 2000 on the Macs in the library. Remember being impressed the first time someone got an Arcology and the big skyscrapers.
