How god damn arrogant and self-righteous are Eddie McGuire and Mark Brawshaw to say they will never change their jumpers. When will presidents and some clubs in general stop acting like they are bigger than the game itself.

This is going to be a bit of a test of strength for the AFL to see whether they can force the ALL the clubs to do whats right or will we see the usual big mouth self important clubs dictating what they think is right. Who the hell do Mcguire and Brawshaw think they are saying things like we'll change when hell freezes over, these 2 cretins should take note at what most of the football public wants to see and that is alternate strips.

If McGuire thinks that this issue is trivial then he should talk to Neale Daniher after watching Ward handball straight to Hird for a goal because of the similar strips.

The AFL should show some real balls and force not encourage or think about but mandate that every one of the 16 AFL teams design a real alternative to their home strip.

And by the way where's the whinging John Elliot on this issue, he and Mcguire were my two favourites to come out and go on with the usual we'll never tamper with our tradition garbage.

So come on AFL if clubs won't tow the line start kicking heads, I think we would all have a smile if you put fat Eddie back in his box.

Once again it seems McEgo beliefs one rule applies to Collingwood and one to everyone else. I mean, they would have to change their jumper maybe 5 times a year max...big deal. Why can't they design a strip that is still mainly black and white but a clearly different design?

I don't know why Ed gets so uptight about his precious jumper, how many times have they changed it in recent times anyway. I think most clubs would be in favour of alternate strips but it's always the same sticks in the mud which make it a pain in the neck for everyone. Jeez I'm having trouble not lacing these posts with 4 letter words, arrogance like this has got nothing to do with club pride it's just backward thinking.

The League should come out and say if clubs don't provide an alternate strip... They will... Imagine the Almighty Pies wearing pale blue jumpers and shorts... now that would be a laugh...

BTW... from my understanding the AFL want the alternate jumpers to be different colours... which in my humble opinion is fair enough too...

Does Eddie even know what he is talking about??? They changed their home jumper this year from the white with black stripes, to black with white strips. Not to mention the 4 other away guernseys theve had in recent years. Its strange if Eddie says "we will never change our guernsey" as its obviously not true...they changed it this year!!!

IF IT DOESN'T CONCERN YOU YOU THUCKEN HAWTHORN TWIT WHY WORRY ABOUT IT.

SO IN CLOSING I SAY GET ROOTED IDIOT.

Macca the current white on black stripes was worn during Collingwoods successful period in the late 1920's....so it is still keeping in the tradition of black and white stripes.
And I can't recall our 4 previous away jumpers........there is last seasons black with white stripes and a small magpie (still keeping the traditional stripes) but thats all. Throw in the current ansett cup strip and one previous ansett cup strip (both still including black and white stripes) and they are the only changes in over 100 years.
I think Eddie and Mark Brayshaw's main concern is the AFL wanting clubs to introduce a radical new colour to the strip, something which clubs whose identity is largely based on their colours might not agree with. I can't see Richmond fans chanting "yellow and turquoise" during their theme song at away games.
Personally though I do think it's time clubs had an alternate strip, aussie rules must be the only professional sport in the world still lacking in this department. And the extra merchandise revenue created by changing it every second year (ie English soccer) would be a boost. Clubs like North could change it every second week to stay afloat.:)

I have now come to the conclusion that Collingwood Joffa was concieved under the old toilet sheds at Vic Park.

Collingwood = underachieveing turds

Yeah, i agree. If the clubs don't design an alternate guernsey, the AFL should do it for them and make it a schoker.

I don't think the geurnseys should be different colours. Just a reversal of the major colour. IE, Sydney's more prodimant colour is white, with a red top.
So they're alternate strip would be prodimately red.

And i agree with Macca. McGuire is acting totally hypocritical. At the start of the year, Collingwood changed their geurnsey. So he obviousbly has no idea what he is talking about.

It's easy enought o keep your original colours, but alter how much of any one clour is prevelant in a jumper. For example, Collingwood should wear their "dark jumper for home games (white on black), with black shorts. For away games, they should wear their light jumper which is black on white, with white shorts.

Similarly, Essendon should have worn a predominantly red jumper on Sunday agaisnt Melbornre. Essendon's predominantly black jumper looked too much like the dark navy jumper of Melbourne. You don't need to alter the colours. Just alter how much of each clour is in the jumper.

Really, in Collingwood's case, the solution is really simple.

The current predominantly black strip, with white stripes and black shorts and socks as the normal strip.

The old predominantly white strip, with black stripes and white shorts as the alternate strip. They could possibly wear white socks as well to make the contrast even more pronounced (or maybe hooped socks).

I don't think too many Collingwood traditionalists should have a problem with that ... and it does provide two completely different strips.

I reckon if you were to play a match between two sides wearing the strips I've described above, you would have no trouble at all telling them apart. The contrast would be extreme.

As for other clubs ... I really think it's just a matter of some people with something other than ******** for brains just sitting down and working out a system that will ensure that there are never any problems telling teams apart, making sure to come up with designs that are as true to the clubs' traditional strips as possible.

It's not that friggen hard ... surely.

But as I've said before ... what we've got a simple case of ********-for-brains.

Pure unadulterated ********-for-brains.

I didnt read all your waffle...........but basically its called TRADITION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess when your team has ******** and Piss as their colours, then of course you want an alternate strip................Has Hawthorn ever had a good gurnsey ????

Collingwood should never change their playing jumper to something radically different.............im with you Eddie

ok thanx for clearing that up for me. With the extra colour...i dont like that idea...its ridiculous actually

The censorship system around here is just so stupid. It won't let you say "sshhiitt" but it will let you say "friggen".

Whoever designed it is suffering from a bad case of sshhiitt-for-brains ...

Pure unadulterated sshhiitt-for-brains.

Honestly - Is the problem that bad? For starters I don't know why Hawks supporters are whinging here - YOUR jumper doesn't even need to be alternated in any way.

Lets see the AFL take on Collingwood, Carlton etc...see where they end up!!

Oh and I agree there could be alternate strips but NO, ABSOLUTELY NO change in colours.

Why am I wingeing ?

I was at last years GF as a medallion club hanger-on and the combination of too much grog ans trying to tell essendon and melbourne apart gave me a HUGE headache. Give me the medallion club at colonal any day as there are plenty of spare seats to have a sleep in (that's if all the comfy chairs in the bars are taken up)
