*rankings are at Freo and players must have played at least four games to qualify.

Highlight – Suban wasted no time letting the football world know he was a legitimate best-22 player with a three-goal, 19-possession effort against West Coast in the round 1 Carlton Mid Derby.

Summary – After notching 16, 10 and 14 games in each of the past three seasons, Suban would have been pleased to play 22 games in 2013. He provided grunt in midfield and defence in what was his best year as an AFL player to date.

Finals

Qualifying Final – 10 disposals
Preliminary Final – 14 disposals, 2 goals
Grand Final – 12 disposals

Summary – Suban’s performance in the finals series was not as prominent as his home and away form. Two goals in the preliminary final against Sydney was pleasing, but he would have liked to have gotten his hands on the football more in September.

Room to improve: Suban showed significant improvement in 2013, but to stay in a strong Fremantle 22 he will need to grow further next year. He will hope to hit the scoreboard regularly again, following his 16 majors in 2013. That was heartening considering he had only kicked a total of eight goals in the previous three seasons.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I once again have to put my hand up as say that he was much better than I thought he was going to be. This time last year I had him as trade bait because I thought he was over rated.
Still in the spirit of humility I will say he improved in leaps and bounds.

Having digested the humble pie, let me say that with some more preseason training going into the likes of Sutty and Sherro as well as the arrival of Sylvia, he is going to have to take it up a notch to keep his place. The big difference is that now I believe that he can hold his position if he puts in the effort.

On a lighter note my highlights of his year consist of his aggressive attitude a couple of shirt punches and a fired up attitude. Certainly not afraid to get in the face of someone who is larger and give as good as he got. Good effort this year you can go further.

Suban has already been one of my favourites. Glad to see he probably had his best season yet with us. Definitely a lot more room for improvement. His best word is in the midfield and at around half forward. It was good to see him kick a lot more goals this year too. Watching the replay of the Geelong v Freo preliminary final, while Barlow and Spurr were phenominal, Suban's effort in the 2nd quarter really did help us win the game.

I loved his "You f**king would you c**t" at Shaw when he punched Ballas in the nuts.

Had a pretty solid year, only went missing every now and then. Plays his role well; hard on the ball, big left boot and contributes the occasional goal.

Wonder where he'll fit into the squad next year, but feel he'll still have a place as long as he stays in form.

7/10

I like Suban, but along with DeBoer I think he's one of the guys who is most in jeopardy of losing his spot as the younger guys improve.

His good games are great, and I love the way he can hit the scoreboard multiple times in a game, but he needs to narrow the gap between his best and worst.

Subes this year really stepped it up particularly beating those with acceleration and speed out of the contest when his fitness before was barely elite. Love his willingness to take a bounce and use his left boot from outside 50- accurate and lethal. Don't see why Suban is at risk of losing his spot, another full pre season and will be firing even more. Him and Barlow are the first ones in during stoppages and doesn't give an inch.

Because it seems for a lot of the year that Lyon rates him as the 21st or 22nd best player in the list, hence why he started sub a few times and was subbed off a few times. With Sylvia, Morabito, Ibbotson and Clancee Pearce to come back into the side that played in the grand final, some people are going to make way, and the most at risk are the guys who started as subs or didn't get picked every week (Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Neale and Suban). That's without even considering Crozier (who I think will become a regular this year) and Gumbleton (one of whom will most likely take De Boer's spot in the team, depending on whether Lyon wants to go tall or small).

Yep, definitely will be an area he'll need to work on. The review from the Freo website highlights his first derby as being a great game (which it was), but to go from that to a zero possession half just 3 weeks later is pretty average.

Anway, it was a good year regardless. One of our best kicks.

He has regularly been out with leg injuries, much like Mayne, until this year. They both proved what they are capable of when fit. Consistency is a problem but I have always been a massive supporter of his kicking. Many of his disposals that resulted in a 73.2% efficiency are long penetrating kicks. When he doesn't hit a target the kicks are normally to advantage.

My knock is that he needs to get the ball more often, preferably not under the pack. Hard to organise when guys like Pearce and Hill are given those roles.

If he can have another good season and continue to improve, I can not see him losing his spot. Very damaging at his best.

Mzungu in that case falls in the same boat. Morabito will pry his time in the WAFL and Lyon won't risk him until mid season if that plus Ibbotson will take Sutcliffe's spot and Pearce will slot in for De Boer with Sylvia coming in as well. Suban stood up in some tough close games - Adelaide Away, vs Sydney at SCG, plus had great games in Round 1 vs West Coast and Carlton. He just needs to find that consistency. It will be interesting to see the fight for midfield/HFF/HBF spots next season..

Yes unfortunately, but I think he is also being groomed as a Crowley mk2 and as such may stay in as he is filling a specific role. i don't think that any of the other people mentioned above fill that role. Maybe deBoer but I think he is in danger also.

If Morabito completes a full preseason he will start round 1.

Not sure, I think RTB will want him to get some WAFL games first. I don't think he is as convinced of Mora's ability as we are.

Morabito is a superstar and he'll start round 1 if he's fit to. He's just as likely to get injured playing WAFL as he is playing AFL. The only real decision is if he has the fitness base to complete an AFL game yet, and like it says above, if he completes a full pre-season he will have, given that he already spent all of 2013 running. Could be a good candidate to come back as the sub.
