When Suban took the game on he was great. Just needs to get his hands on the ball more often. Only 14 touches last night.

Subes had a great 2nd half, but it took him a little while to get going, I thought. when he started bursting through the corridor and sending the ball low and flat to players forward he looked great.

Yep. He is a naturally attacking player. When he has the ball in his hands he looks dangerous. Like you said when he is charging through the corridor things usually happen. I actually think he could benefit from a couple of kg"s of extra muscle to help him win more ball.

When Suban, Duffield, Clancee, Hill etc have the ball in hand I feel comfortable.

Even though Suban hasn't really played all four quarters in a game yet, when the game is there to be won, he has consistently been one of the players to step up.

4 Year Bump.

Was going to post in the Hat eating thread but this is more fun.

I've been horrifically one-eyed against Suban the last two years, and I'm still not a huge fan but I feel he acquitted himself well on Sunday. Did a great job on Dangerfield until he was taken off him, kicked an awe-inspiring 55 metre goal that put us well ahead, and most importantly provided a great deal of grunt and muscle around the clearances and even won us a few single-handedly.

Does this mean he gets another contract? Maybe not - but I'm not sure if it's a coincidence that we finally won the tackle count with him in the side. He has a harder body than the majority of our youngsters (except maybe Grey) and I think he could be (or his type) could be a vital cog in increasing our levels of pressure. He didn't get pinged holding the ball either.

What I truly believe is that he shouldn't be kicking the ball around half-back or the midfield - it's Sutcliffe levels of poor and when he's under pressure he can spray it out of bounds multiple times in a single game. I think his game needs to be built around providing enough grunt and aggro to allow others to win the ball, or to win the ball and handball it off immediately to someone with better skills (i.e. Neale, Weller, Blakely, Mundy etc).

Where I don't mind him kicking it is into the forward 50 with a bit of space, he seems to be not too poor at that and one of the few players that can hit the middle from outside the arc. In addition to that continuing to play a tagging role could be vital to his game - teamed up with Grey I feel we could really elevate the level of grunt that was so pertinent to our game throughout our Top 4 years.

He has a long way to go, but everyone deserves a second chance and I think he's done a bit that warrants respect.

he doesn't deserve to be dropped for the next game however he needs to string a few good games together to stay in the team.

So much this. The bigger body was appreciated but you got to get the ball when its your turn and not give away dumb free kicks. Good game, I wish the best for him but I would rather look at the potential of Grey and Deluca so I hope they get picked ahead of him. Think he is 50/50 to make it to 150 games.

So bewildered at why he was taken off Dangerfield? To half forward, where he barely excels. Reckon that cost us a little, as Dangerfield just turned it on in the last quarter.

Suban has been a one trick pony for most of his football career in that he has always been the guy who is prepared to go hard to win the ball but he like DP then just wants to kick it as hard as he can .He is very good at hard ball gets but his disposal lets him down in that he rarely drops his vision and looks for a player that's 30 meters away and in the clear. He played very well against Geelong as the tagger but if he's is not in the midfield there is nowhere else to put him . Deluca on the other hand can play HFF ,Wing and Midfield .

Played a decent game on the weekend yeah. But you know what you're going to get. Doesn't deserve to get dropped per se but you'd probably prefer he doesn't play the rest of the year in favour of Deluca (who was good I thought) or Grey or Balic when fit. I dunno. There's probably a balance. I'd prefer to drop Sheridan than him if you're looking for someone to drop after that game.

I'd still look to move him on, it's probably best for both parties as he might be able to get a couple of years as depth at a Vic club.

Not sure why people are talking him up like he's turned a corner, we know from previous experience that he can play a half decent game once a year, it's when we start to believe again that he craps on fans hopes and dreams the following week.

Like in the past - he'll retain his spot and spud it up next week and be the main subject in the melt thread and why aren't we playing the kids in front of him.

Opportunity is a marvellous thing. Suban , Sheridan & Crozier need to make the most if it but sadly they haven't or won't, then the likes of Langdon, Balic,
De Luca, Hughes and even possibly Nyhuis will go past them.

He play a decent game, but I won't rank him in my top 5 performer this week.
TBH, if we wanted a hard bodied tagger who can win the ball and cause some damage the other way, I'll keep Barlow. Of course, Barlow is better than that. But we did have that option (just saying).
This weekend just showed the lack of hardness in our young players. Play them more and I believe it'll come with more games. If we lack experience in the middle I consider playing suban. With Fyfe, Neale and Mundy, we should have enough leadership and I'll leave him out.
Different matter if we think we can improve his trade value at the end of the year by playing him more though ;-)

Freak me up when I saw this thread been bump after blakely contract extension .
